Latest extension on the Afonglas and Nant Llywyd Railway

Here are a couple of pics of the final phase of the Afonglas and Nant Llywyd railway, the line into Afonglas station and the station and sidings



The line into the station is at 1 in 50 to keep me above ground level
The line off the right line of the point will run into my dads workshop and will be at 1 in 25!



The work on the extension has been shared between me and my dad, with the blockwork by dad, and the hamering out of the concrete thats there by me (where the trench begins, the trackbed changes to shuttered concrete as used on the rest of the A and NLR from the bottom end of Afallen
There will need to be a lot done when this section of line is ready to make the area look pretty!

Thanks, my thinking is for going for lots of buildings, because its so shady that no much would grow apart from weeds. I'm hoping to put in plenty of sidings to prevent steamups becoming crowded

BTW, how do you work out gradients ie 1 in 25? Im hopeless at Mafs!

Might I ask though what a reel of fire hose is doing in your garden though?!

Gradient is worked out by dividing the length of the trackbed thats going to be on the hill divided by the height to be gained or lost
eg if the length that was going to be on the gradient was 4 metres (400 centimetres), and the height to be gained was 4 centimetres then 400/4 = 100, giving a 1 in 100 gradient. Obversly both the height and length need to be in centimetres to make it work, and a calculator is very useful!

Yeah fogot ot reply about the fire hose...hmm yes lets just say that my dad is into fire engines, and that there is a 1940's Austin fire engine in the back garden! (BTW it can be seen on the drivers eye view of my line part one, type in ANLR on youtube and it should come up)
