RC for Accucraft Mortimer

Does anyone have any pictures of RC fitted to an Accucraft Mortimer ? Is it just forward and reverse or is there regulator control as well ?

Any help/ guidnace appreciated

i am fiting rc to mine mortimer in the coming moths but have you tryed the actice on the g scale mad forum click actice on the home page i belive the person who posted that is on this form to under the name of Doug

Factory standard is reverser only. The GSM website closes today but I've the article saved. Doug, the author, has indeed just joined this 'ere forum.

Apparently fitting full (regulator) r/c to a Mortimer is harder than a Caradoc, but I'm not sure why- less space possibly.

New Haven Neil, an occasional poster, has fitted 2 channel r/c to a Mortimer (and is a very nice chap too), try sending him a PM.

What, is that for Caradoc? I'm afraid that with the arrival of 2 R/C locos in the ANLR in 2009 I removed the radio from Caradoc. However the reg servo was a bit of a cobble up, I just epoxied it to the floor of the cab, connected to the regulator with a length of wire. The best thing to do I think would be make up some form of mounting bracket for it.

L shaped brass bracket to mount the servo to, bit of wire, and if you are feeling fancy chuffed 2 bits sell a noggin to fit onto the regulator valve that you can attatch a wire to a servo.

Adding R/C to Caradoc is quite easy. The regulator servo on mine just uses a brass bracket to mount the servo, and new brass arm on the regulator itself and a thin bit of brass wire to link the two. Have to have the regulator open a crack, as it is very stiff to start with and would burn out most servos. The rest of the travel is fine.

I would recommend you use a metal geared servo if you can afford the extra cost.

Looking at the picture, wouldn't it be neater to shorten the regulator spindle, put a new flat on the end and put a normal arm like wot Roundhouse use on the end? I can't tell how your new arm is fixed to the spindle but it doesn't look too robust to me..........

Looks to me Brian as though there is a brass collar soldered to the arm with a grubs screw holding it to the spindle.

The arm is indeed silver soldered to the brass collar. Brass collar came from model aeroplane shop and very slightly opened up to fit on the spindle. First try at silver soldering, was very easy really.

The large plastic control knob has now gone, replaced with a nice scale regulator arm from Milton Locomotive works.

I will eventually do something about the large brass arm for the servo linkage, probably when i convert it all to 2.4GHz and throw away the servo smoother in the tank.

thought i post this pice for people may be have difflucts fiting rc to a mortimer

The stuff I used was
auccucraft mortimer
4 AA rechargeable batterys
planet transmitter 2.4GHz ( so no interrens or rusty bolt effect) sorces fron AnDel models at 39.99 it great vavle for money
a 4 cell battery box from maplin (longer oner 4 2 cell long by 2 cell wide )
9 gram micro servo of ebay (the cheapo ones got a bay of them)

rising steam very slowy

here's the cab the white box on the right tuck in to the tank is the reciver

here's the servo aporating the reg you can see the mass of wise to

here's the best bit the bunker i made the cover out of a bit of brass and a little coal

here's the transmitter

edrig making a bloody mess again!!!!

on it first run the cylinder leaks!!
