My Engine Shed
Recently, there has been quite a bit of progress with my engine shed project so i thought i would share this with you.
It is quite a substantial and heavy structure being made mostly out of concrete with a stainless steel floor complete with recess for the track. This allows me to make it look as though the track is level with the floor without having to concrete my track in place.
Also I have been working on the roof trusses, of which the front ones are currently under the process of being clad. The whole roof will be removable to allow access to the detailed interior which is also shown in some of the pictures. I have placed my recently overhauled IP engineering Jack in places to give an idea of the size of the building.
the interior detail consists of a raised working platform along with a work bench, some lockers and the foreman's office complete with opening door.
Most of this has been scratch built and so far, I am very pleased with it.
there is still plenty to do before this can be called finished, but hopefully it wont be too long before it can be put into use.

Thanks for all the compliments.
It has taken me a while to build (about 2 or 3 years) of which most of the time it has sat cluttering up my shed waiting for me to think of ideas to solve problems!
Brian, Yes one of my aims is to light it, with some industrial style lampshades, these should be powered by a battery box, fitted to the roof to allow it to be removable.

Seeing as it's taking such a long time (!) get yourself down to your local IKEA at Christmas to pick up some of their battery boxes and strings of 10 LEDs for £1-56.............MoelygestLR wrote:Brian, Yes one of my aims is to light it, with some industrial style lampshades, these should be powered by a battery box, fitted to the roof to allow it to be removable.

Yup, and incredibly heavy too, just think that most of that is made from concrete and steel!SillyBilly wrote:Does look great, I now understand why you kept on exclaiming about how big it is!
Thats exactly the idea! and also so that items inside the shed can be moved around to create cameos for photographs quite easily and that when no ones videoing or photographing and you just want to operater you can take the roof off and it makes the whole building a bit smaller and the surrounding area a bit more accessable.LMS-Jools wrote:Bloomin Marvelous an excellent show piece for your railway. I trust you are keeping the roof removable so others can admire the interior detail. ;) 8)

the two lego crates holds lego tools in them, they are quite close to scale so I though I'd use them as clutter. and the crates dont look out of scale either. the bit on top of the crate is just to stop the tools falling out.Mr. Bond of the DVLR wrote:Blooming marvelous, I like the bits of bogie etc but what is with he lego?!
the bogie was just placed there to make it look like it is being worked on.

Well Some recent progress has been made in that a soloution for the problem of mounting the doors has been thought up and the roof is almost ready to be assembled. I have the two peices cut and ready to make the roof along with the plastic sheet of imitating slate to go over the top. I'm aiming to try and get this finished for the AGM maybe to enter it into the scenery model of the year comp.
Also, I have found a place in america that makes scale cast machines, so I am going to place an order and put them in the shed, what engine shed doesn't have drills and lathes!
Maybe I will take some photos tomorrow when I do some more work on it
