Garden Railway Forum

Construction began in 2020 when large numbers of scaffold boards where dumped on the street nearby, near enough to build an entire raised railway.
Painted in green fence paint (only shade available in the local shops in 2020) and topped with roofing felt.

Motive power is live steam and battery.
Kildale Station and yard.
I have plans to extend the yard and have a swiftsixteen turntable waiting.

The line leaving Kildale splits at a triangle junction.
The large planter is an old sink on a sewing machine table.

Daleside Station, the siding originally ran on into the shed but was sealed up when it wasnt being used enough. The waterbutt supplies the water for the railway. Far corner of the garden serves a small industrial siding.

Two old Tuxcraft concrete low relief buildings with a mirror behind them. Old plastic toy traction engine.

Crossing the back of the garden, Battersby Halt is just over the bridge. Mainline turning left while the right branch serves a small, unseen quarry.

Passing under the bird feeders. Castleton Station where the line turns left to form a circuit or right back to Kildale Station.

Thanks they came from those flexible sheets of mosaic tiles.
Iv got some leftover planning to build a little platform shelter with some rapid repair cement to bond the blocks.

Good to see Im not the only one who finds old clutter charming and characterful, Iv picked up the chimney pots and other odd bits from skips and cheap at carboot sales.
I get the concrete mushroom houses and other garden ornaments (which are horrifically expensive at garden centres) from a market stall thats sell cheap seconds with minor flaws for a couple of quid which I paint and seal before putting them outside.
The large sink that acts as a planter was another neighbour freebie when they renovated the kitchen, it sits on a cast iron footworked sewing machine table. Got it for a few quid because its got a damaged foot.
The sink fits perfectly and it holds it at a near perfect height to go alongside the railway.

Even most of the plants are grown from cuttings and others like most of my ferns coming from one my neighbours gardens which is quite shady and harbours many naturally established ferns, Im doing him a favour far as hes concerned weeding the newly spored plants from his lawn and transplanting them into my back garden the fill in the shady bare spots under the railway.
