4Kam - Railcam

Post by Nigel B »

Could do with some advice please. I ordered a Railcam in February which never arrived. Got a refund, ordered another in March which hasn’t arrived yet. My problem is that my emails are not being answered and I don’t know what’s happening - any help on what to do next would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Nigel
It depends where you ordered it from and how you paid.

I'm confused, Railcam is a proprietary business that 'markets' live footage from railways, I can't find anything on the Internet other than references to viewing railways.
That said, if ordering online, I would use a credit card rather than debit, as credit card companies must re-imburse you if you don't receive your goods.

You're right. The company is 4Kam and the product is MC500 - Wireless Micro Video Train Camera
I had 2 PayPal transactions fail so I (foolishly) went with my debit card . I don't have a credit card; this hobby is dangerous enough as it is...

Ah. Bad news I'm afraid, it seems that the business started out as bona fide, but has become something of a nightmare. Trust Pilot reviews aren't good. https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.4kam.com it seems they just rebadge cheap Chinese cameras now.
Can you try your bank to see if they will pursue a refund? I know mine basically says "caveat emptor" for debit card purchases now🫣

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, Nigel. I see you've left feedback on Trust pilot to warn off others. I don't think I've come across such a large clutch of negative reviews.

I bought a very cheap (c£10) video camera on eBay quite a few years ago and it was fine for filming onboard videos. Since then I've bought a more expensive (c£30) action camera (a sort of GoPro rip off) and it's really good. It shoots on HD and you can set it to record various formats. Might be worthwhile browsing eBay to see what's currently on offer.

Hi Nigel. This looks very much like the one I bought - but now around half the price.
