Lettering for railways

I have put my own lettering on my railway stock.

One easy way is to find a local vinyl cutter and ask for a lot of your letters. think of a standard height for your lettering. I use 1cm white lettering. the font can be anything you choose but avoid very thin fonts as they are hard to apply. Vinyl can take the heat on a tank engine but of course do not apply directly on a boiler. I got a few hundred sets on my lettering for £10 so really cheap way to do lettering.

I've found it a very cost effective way of lettering an engine Bryan, and as you've said, it's ok on steam locos as long as it's not directly on the boiler. And not just lettering, I also cut out some sets of BR double arrows! Was intended as a temporary measure until I could afford to get a proper paint job done on the loco, but it's lasted quite well.
