Is 45mm Gauge the same as G Gauge

Hello,

I am from the US and wanting to get into live steam/ Remote Control in garden railways. I want to model some UK narrow gauge locomotives but am also open to modeling whatever I find interesting. I have been researching different gauges and track lengths. I was interested in 32mm but there are almost no listings around me for track or the shipping is more than the product listed (all probably shipped from the UK). I saw on a couple of websites that 45mm narrow gauge and G gauge were the same track length. Are 45mm locomotive and G gauge track able to go together? I have been modeling in OO/HO and don't know much about live steam or the differences in garden railways. Any info will help. Thank you all for any assistance. :D

Ni and welcome to the forum.

Deepening on the track, 45mm is indeed G gauge as far as the rail is concerned and most of the "standard" offerings fit together, like LGB, Peko, Piko, Accucraft, Aristocraft and many other well known brands too, all of these are Code 332 track and are interchangeable. Anything with a different code, may not fit easily or at all.

There are code 200, 215 and 250 track, this is much lower than the 332 track and is not directly compatible, it is also not as widely used as 332 code.

Would a loco that is listed as 45mm narrow gauge work on G gauge track then? If I were to buy Peco 332 track would they work fine or would there be any problems?

Yes absolutely it would work and 332 code is the most common so, no, no problems
