OK. It's been a while since I've posted anything about developments on the PLR. A series of events have prevented me from engaging fully with hobby. However, I have been quietly beavering away in the background and so have reached the stage where I have several models queuing for the paint-shop.

Firstly, a couple of variants of the Southwold Cleminson six- wheeled wagon.

I'm now more or less happy with the design of this (after several trials and tribulations) and so will soon be uploading the files to the 3D files board.

I'm now more or less happy with the design of the Southwold six-wheeled coach. Not a perfect representation but I needed to ensure it could cope with the curves and undulations of an actual garden railway layout. This is the third coach to complete my rake and each one has resulted in a tweak or two and what I hope is an improvement in the design. This still requires a bit more work before it's ready for the paint shop.

I've also now rescaled most of my 0-16.5 GVT stock to 16mm (and I'm working on 15mm versions as well).

These also will be uploaded to the 3D files section in due course.

Edit: BTW These will also be available in 32mm gauge

I've also reworked the County Donegal luggage van which was a bit underscale - it was based on just one photo of a grounded body. The Museum in Londonderry which houses one of the vans kindly sent me the key dimensions and so I've now produced a better scaled version of the van.

Wow, really crisp prints Rik! Are filament or resin - and have you printed the handles and handrails on the GVT coach?

And finally, Dean from DesignScanPrint3D came over and scanned in a few friends from the dramatic society wearing 1920s/30s/40s outfits and he's sent me the first batch of figures. A bit spooky having friends (and me) waiting on the platforms.

Sorry, these won't be appearing as downloads as I don't have the files and anyway they are copyrighted to Dean. Though, if you subscribe to his mailing list he does release figures as downloads every so often, so who knows?

Yes FDM prints - but I've also produced sides without handles so people will be able to add their own cast brass versions

Most impressive Rik. Like Simon, I wasn't sure if the coach sides, in particular, were resin. I realise that different printers can give different results with the same settings, but could you give us a clue as to your layer height, speeds, temps, ironing parameters, etc to get such unblemished surfaces?

Plus, I've just noticed the axlebox spring detail, which is just visible above the step in the last coach picture. That is simply unbelievable ( not that I doubt you! :D )

It's much more attributable to luck than judgement. The sides aren't entirely unblemished. I did get some stringing on these prints which I've now reduced by decreasing the hot end temperature from 210C to 200C. The sides in the photos above have been smoothed with a gentle rub from a small piece of Emery. This is how they look straight off the printer.

I was pleased with the spring detail. Again, straight off the printer. A needle file tidied up the stringing.

I think most of the settings are the defaults. I may have tweaked them slightly over time but didn't make a record - just a process of trial and improvement.

I seem to recall that Z hop increased stringing and so now don't use it.

ThanksRik.
I can see some minor differences to my normal settings, so I may have a play.

When you get around to uploading those files I'll have a go at comparing them, just out of interest. I'm assuming these pictures are of your O-16.5 versions?

Impressive, Rik. Apologies, I am sure you've given this info elsewhere somewhere, but what nozzle size and material are you using?

Those are some really nice models, I especially like the springs.

Have you tried turning on Monotonic Ordering? It might help with the diagonal lines you see where the top infill is broken by an island sticking out of it. It just reorders the lines so they are always progressing in one direction across the layer, barely affects print time but helps with that sort of minor issue.

Not tried that. TBH, I didn't know what it did or what it might cure. I'll give it a try on the next job.
