The last few days have seen lots of finishing touches
Luggage racks in the long coach being one fiddly task done today. The roofs were varnished underneath and painted with dark grey masonry paint on top (B&Q test pots are good value). chassis painted matt black. The lattice gates glued in.

Here are the two new coaches with the original
When we get a dry day I will take better pictures of them on the layout in the garden.

Oh ye of little faith Peter!

Before the promised heavenly deluge, due soon, I took a photo opportunity:-
I noticed in the workshop photo from yesterday that the roof of the longer coach was not sitting properly. It turns out that the luggage racks were in the way of the roof supports as I had placed them. I will sort that later having removed them for the photos.

A note on the Bayblend rail joiners from Cliff Barker. He says not to use them on curves which I quickly found to be the case. They are likely to split if there is any strain upon them and I am replacing them with Peco metal ones as I find one has fallen apart, this also applies to straight track. They look good ...

I do like those! You've made a lovely job of them...

I think I am going to succumb at some point...

I'm thinking either the shorter 4 wheeler, or the longer one, but on bogies...

I must say, I liked the short one plenty, but I like the long one even more. And they look terrific assembled as a rake.

Good tip on the masonry paint testers!

Woops. I think it will appear overnight as public. I'm a beginner at YouTube and intended it would only be available to those I shared the link with. Changes now made, it appears as unlisted on YouTube, I'm reluctant to be fully public!

Brilliant those coaches Phil, really like them.

One other tip if I may Phil. Turn the phone to horizontal, it makes a really big difference to the way you film things.


Youtube is a learning curve on it's own mate, sometimes I get so confused with it I just want to throw my laptop out of the window...

I had a go yesterday. Here's a short clip with decent lighting, the angle of the sun made things a bit tricky.

Thats so much better isn't Phil. Go a little bit closer by either moving closer or zoom in a little before you start filming mate. I promise you, you will get a lot better at it with practice mate.

Looks great! After seeing stock on a workbench or in progress, it always brings out a new side of it to see it in motion around the track.

Some progress on the platform surface.

I bought more Cataloy paste last week and have continued filling and sanding the edge surface of the recycled plastic. I would not want to try using this stuff on a car! Three coats of grey masonry paint later and I have here removed one of the masking tapes to show before and after:-


I have cut a groove in the underside at each end where the ramp starts to make it easier to bend. It now needs fixing down and the individual stones indicated with a marked line but it's hammering down with rain just now.

Tidy Phil! Difficult to see from the photo angle but I have just measured one of my GRS loco chassis and it has an overhang of 36mm each side of the track gauge and the buffer beam is just 9mm above rail height. Will it pass?

One way to find out Peter! Some dry days forecast soon so we could have a running session.

Thats really neat Phil, hopefully you will be able to try it out this week, apparently we are in for a few days of decent weather before it goes back to being that wet stuff again...
