The Fairbourne Railway has discovered a serious engineering fault in their main resident loco, L&B replica Yeo. All three driver wheelsets need replacement before she can run again. They need £10k to fund the work.

I'm sure you are all aware of the fascinating history of this significant miniature heritage railway - http://www.fairbournerailway.com/history.html

If you have a fiver or more to spare then please help them out

A lovely line in a beautiful setting with its unusual half scale locos of actual 2 ft gauged prototypes. I went there about 6 years ago. Lovely views of Barmouth and its bridge at the end of the line. Not dissimilar in feel in some ways to the RHD. Very much worth a visit, when you are in that neck of the woods, to ride its better known neighbours. A worthy cause to support.

When I was there last I noticed an abandoned indoor 45 m gauged US 3 ft NG themed line. What has happend to that ? Max

It was there the last time I went, but that was probably three years ago.

When we went, we took the train to Penrhyn Point, then crossed the estuary on the ferry, had fish and chips in Barmouth and then walked back across the bridge. A lovely day out.

PS - Quite by coincidence, I am in the process of digitising photos for the Narrow Gauge Railway Society and the box I'm doing at the moment includes photos and postcards of the Fairbourne.

Here are some from the archives to whet your appetite

It was on welsh tele 'Weatherman Walking' in the last few days he was walking the Mawdach trail. I don't know if those outside of Wales can pick it up on BBC iplayer.
We cannot see the Mendip transmitter because of the neighbours large trees on the hill. But we can pick up Wenvoe. It is probably line of sight from the top of the garden.
