Garret Question

In a conventional steam locomotive the cylinders exhaust went out the stack via the smoke box which aided draw of the fire.
In the Garret design, where did the cylinders exhaust steam go?
As there is still only one smoke box and stack was the exhaust channeled through them or another method?

Both engines on a Garratt exhaust through the smokebox. The exhaust arrangements varied, but in most cases both exhaust lines came back into a single tee fitting, although some had multiple exhaust jets after the tee.

The Kitson-Meyer was designed to compete with the Beyer-Garratt, but in that case the rear engine exhausted through a separate funnel behind the cab.....
