Has anyone out there tried painting a live steam loco with halfords enamels rattle cans? I know the acrylics soften with heat but wondering if the enamel range might be ok.

Just in case it helps anyone out, I tried baking a test piece in the oven at 200 for 20 mins ( while the other half was out...) and it didn’t soften, so think it should be ok.

Good to know Gareth. Shame the range of colours is quite limited.

I’ve only tried gloss black so far, but yeah, shame there’s not a huge range as they spray much nicer than the Phoenix cans

I guess you are tslking about the exhaust paint? I've used this on the base for a stirling engine, baked in the oven (again while the wife was out and yes, it did pong a bit!). Seems OK so far - the holder for the fuel tablet sits in a recess on the painted base.

I’ve used the exhaust paint before but this was the standard enamel spray cans they do, seems to work just fine so far
