Want to make up some 45mm track, sleepers are the easy bit I can either make from hardwood, 3d print them or Lasercut, wondering what to use for rails thinking strips of 3/8x1/8" but dont know what is best brass or alum?

You might like to look at my webpage. I started using alum bar 10x3mm 20 years ago. It looks like this

Here's my webpage.....

I don't really recommend using alum bar in slotted sleepers outdoors, - read the detailed reasons on the webpage. BUT it was how I got into GR - the only way I could afford it 25 years ago!

There is also a link to how I now make track using brass rail - but you'll have to find a source of rail! I found a source of rail that was almost as cheap as alum bar.
here's the link repeated.

Very interesting reading through your site and looking at the videos
Came across this site which has rail at good prices so might go down this route rather than using flat, they seem to specialise in the larger gauges 5 and 7 1/4 etc but have some rail to suit 32 and 45mm
