No the river hasn't run dry. There's a brief shot of it at 8:46 in Part 1. It was difficult to get shots of it which also included two trains.

Hi all
My latest. This one outlines the eight categories I now use for deciding which wagons go where on the railway when using the freight management program on my trusty old Psion pocket computer. Unlike previous versions of the freight manager software, I've had to write the program so it would fit into the 1Mb of memory on the Psion - which was considered to be quite generous when the computer was made in 1993!

That was a really informative video Rik. I have learnt a little bit more about how trains operated with goods. It seems it wasn't that important to have all the same wagon, skips or vans on the same train, which for me as it is for you also, far more interesting.
Sorry again though for picking up a little problem for which I know I think, you know about. The little bump in the track going over the bridge. The lighter rolling stock gave a little jump, but the heavier ones didn't seem to cause any at all. Is the track a little bit misaligned
I did also notice that you have got a pretty standard colour scheme for you rolling stock, which I think does look good when you have a full mixed train.
I just enjoy seeing your videos and they give me loads of inspiration and ideas which I may coy slightly if that's ok.

I didn't notice the bump by the brewery siding until I came to edit the video - by which time of course it was too late. I think it was a small stone or twig in the wing rail of the point which moved as the wagons rolled over it. At least it didn't derail them, although if it did I'd have re-shot that clip.

When I planned the video update I was worried I wouldn't have much to report. I expected that my foray into 7mm scale had deflected too much attention from the PLR. It surprised me how much I had actually achieved in the space of a year. All those little projects add up, it seems.
I do have a few plans for the coming year which will hopefully come to fruition. One of them includes rationalising my stock, which now exceeds the space I have available to store it - unless I run a new siding or two into the workshop ..... .....

I might have to treat myself to some 30s figures - It's the late 20s in my garden, but maybe the locals are ahead of the times...
I'm intrigued as to what proportion of your running sessions you film? You suggest in the review of the year that you don't film them all - I guess I'm just interested by how often people run their trains, and had assumed that whenever you have an operating session a film appears. Perhaps you're out playing trains more often than I thought?!

I tend to film full operating sessions though don't film them in their entirety - just a few edited highlights. On other occasions, I might set up a specific activity such as the delivery of the gear wheel to the mill, and work out how that movement would fit into a full session - then just run that part of the full session. At other times, I just run a few trains in an ad hoc way but generally don't film them unless something happens that piques my interest.
So, no real pattern to the filming.

PS Some of the outfits could easily be 1920s. The cloche hats and fur trim are applicable to both decades.

It must be an optical illusion. There's usually plenty of clearance there. It might be that the last wagon hiccuped over the frog on the points, which does sometimes happen.
