I hope we haven't strayed too far off subject in this thread, but continuing with the PDF brand, and having practised, sorry, gained experience, building the Alice Class Hunslet I have ordered a Port Class for myself.
These kits are made to order so it could be a few weeks before I receive it.... no hurry!

Hi all.
I want to radiocontrol my Baldwin (see earlier picture) but also add a sound card with speaker so decided there was no way I could fit everything under the bonnet including batteries so I have built a festiniog 2 ton coal truck to carry all this that will be the first truck behind it. I am not at home at the moment but will post a pic early next week.

David, please let us know what you can fit in the space you have in the loco body.... batteries, receiver, etc... I know from my own experience how little space there is but it would be useful for others.

Having seen the lovely job Peter made of the loco for Julie and Dennis last Wednesday evening I've also ordered a Port class.

Quite like these Baldwin locos. Certainly wouldn't look out of place on a sugarcane line, depicted either during steam days hauling cane, or after dieselisation, relegated to navvy work. The more I think about it, the more I want one too!

Mitch, how are you getting on with your Baldwin build?
Peter, sorry I have been a long time answering your request but here goes. -
The useable space under the bonnet is-
Length 85mm.
Width 60mm.
Height 40mm ( over the motor that invades the space a little). This shot shows what I am intending to fit under the bonnet. It includes battery pack, receiver and sound card. This was a test of the equipment and as yet I have not fitted a switch in the + line from the battery pack. You can also see the card cradle under the bonnet that i have made to house the electronics at the side of the battery pack. This shot shows how the components fit under the bonnet. A good fit but not tight. This shot shows the loco with cab in place and the switch panel installed. I think I have just about finished the model now, but I am going to strengthen the cab as there are a couple of places where joints do not seem strong enough, especially the back/top corners. I am moving towards bracing from front to back over the doorways. In a previous post I was going to put the electronics in a truck behind the loco but I am really pleased that I have been able to have the loco self contained. I may or may not fit a charging socket but I do like to charge my batteries out of the unit.

I'm intrigued by the 009 loco just visible in the background. Can't see it very well, but with that tall cab and red liveryI'm wondering if it's a NWNGR single Fairlie?

Hi david, the baldwin is going ok, what did you use for the screws for the cranks? id probably buy some and put some in mine .

Can anyone tell me what size the wheels and axles are on the pdf Baldwin? Toying with the idea of building one but would want to make it gauge adjustable...
