Tired with carting around my gas cylinder on the flatbed truck (it fell off the other day in a small derailment  ) I found that a 220g gas cylinder fits inside our standard 80mm rainwater downpipe. So today I rushed out and bought some end caps to start the project

Or just use coal Dave

Looking forward to seeing how you achieve this.

Butane is my new "universal fuel", I've got 2 gas-fired locos now

During loco testing in the spring, I found low gas pressure a problem so placed the canister in a warm water bath, the cylinder has a 40 dg C max pressure, although it is designed to be used inside a single-burner stove :D

220g gas canisters are approx max 69mm diameter. The downpipe is approx 76mm ID. There's enough gap for a water bath, especially with an upper and lower vertical centre projection.

There can be a drain tap for the water and another valve for gas flow

Here's the current set-up on the flatbed
