Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Very nice, my assumption is the leaf springs are individual pieces of brass, how did you keep them together, glue, solder or a pin through the centre

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Thanks lads. The leaves are copper, I had a piece the correct thickness, and hacksawed and filed each piece. The central strap is now drilled through to attach to the axle box push rod. I'm working on the hanger brackets now

Nice job Dave, are you going to just let them weather naturally.

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Had a whoopsy yesterday with the hanger cross-hole position being too low. Plugged it with a piece of rod, silver soldered, and then cut out and filed down.

The first pic is much better quality, you should post them all like that!

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
I've made another hanger this time out of brass rod. Hmmm, I wonder which to go for? The leaf spring and hangers so far are just a trial

The pictures are better quality using your digital camera.
I like the brass rod bracket.
I like the brass rod bracket.
Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
I reckon the flat bar type is more prototypical.

I like flat one better, but both are equally plausible - you can find prototype for each
p.s. pictures are better as well
Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
I am for the flat brass bar, I don't which is more phenotypical, but (IMHO) it looks the best. Nice job which ever you decide to choose.

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
What do you think of this new one? Where larger rod meets flat strip. I think it gets my vote
Best wishes,
Dave

Yes, I agree Dave. Thicker rod and strip U bracket, gets my vote.

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
Thicker one for me, although both are equally brilliant and look great on the springs.

Re: Charles - Penrhyn Mainline Hunslet
I've been working on a new spring, with the leaves reduced from 1/4" to 3/16", with a type 3 hanger, and a different eyelet. Getting ready for for production
Best wishes,

Superb job Dave.
Better one now they are bent a little. Did you say you are going to blacken them, this blooming memory, they would look even more impressive then.
