Not much progress, but I stuck the corrugated roof on last week... It just needs a little filling and sanding and it'll be ready for painting, but that'll be by spray can, so I'll need to wait for better weather...

Hi folks,

Having completed a few details and undertaken a little filling and sanding, yesterday evening it was finally dry and warm enough to start painting. It was a little windy in my favoured spraying position on the front path, and I only narrowly avoided spraying both my trousers and the car, but I managed to apply several coats of Plasticote primer:


The window frames have been removed temporarily - the type I'm using are great like that, very convenient for painting. It did occur to me that a ticket office type window might look good in the office part of the building, but that wouldn't be in keeping with the original so I've resisted the temptation...

If the weather holds I'll try to start getting the top coats on over the next few days - a sort of beigey-cream I'm afraid, not lurid Hornby yellow!

Those are made from... you've guessed it... nail art gems!

It looks to be most authentic, right down to the diagonal braces in the waiting area and the bench seating...... very good indeed!

Just like the other members Andrew, I agree it's a brilliant job. Creamy-beige....nice.....

The cream is on now, and here's how it's looking:


I'm using Liquitex spray paint from an art shop, which definitely has pros and cons. The colour's exactly like the one on the can, the consistency's even, and the smell's not bad because it's water based - but because of that it takes ages to dry. Seems a little prone to running too, but I got away with it. Probably better for artists than modellers I think...

Progress is likely to slow for a while, but as a taster of what the finished thing should look like, here's a little test piece I did to see what green I'd use for the windows and doors and try our a weathering wash:

Very nice job Andrew. That paint does look good, even though you say it does tend to run. Did you need to rub it down or anything, or did you paint one side up first, then turn it when it dried?

On my computer, it still looks grey. Must be a trick of the light.

It's a fairly muted tone - I've just taken it outside to see if the colour's easier to see...


As you can see, I've sprayed the roof black now, although there's a bit of tidying up to do where my masking wasn't quite up to the job!

Rod, yes, I did a coat the right way up, then one upside-down, then one to sort out any bits I'd missed. I'd given most of it a going-over with sandpaper to represent woodgrain which should help the paint to key, but the Plasticote primer from Wilko's pretty good staff and seems to take well...

Looking good Andrew. With any luck the slight over-spray could be disguised as mucky weathering running down that valance.

Wish I had asked to keep it now Andrew as it looks great and exactly the kind of buildings I wanted to have on the railway.
