Although for the amount that I would be using, £9.45 + £3.00 p+p is a bit to much I think to pay. I have also looked at the foil that you can buy and blooming heck it's expensive.

Last post on the FWLR this year, too much happing with the family, plus I am knackered to tell the truth with all this stuff happing this year. I haven't had much time for myself and Anne, because we have been looking after the Grandkids, going to nativity's, going shopping with them etc, etc.

Last day for looking after the Grandsons, so we did some baking.


We did do another rack of them but.........

In-between all the babysitting and stuff, I have done a little bit on the garage, just some office furniture, nothing great, but we like them, especially Anne..


Sorry about the quality of the photo showing the filing cabinet, but you hopefully can see what I did. I am leaving the paint has is, it looks industrial I think.

I remember in years past, some people were using Meccano gears to form corrugations.
The parts can still be found in the usual auction sites.
Two standard rods in Meccano trunions with the gears nicely meshing.
May need several gears butted together, and a winding handle.

Done some more on the garage.

With the intended lights that will be in the garage, I have built a small power cabinet to house the battery box, it is a really easy build with the Plasticard, but unfortunately I am sorry I didn't take any photos of the build. It only took me about 15 minutes all told, this Plasticard is real quick to build anything. There is only one working switch, the rest are false. But we think it does what is needed.


The office needed a light, so I looked at interior lights, but I found them to be far to big or small. So while having my morning ablutions, I thought just came to me The screw top off a toothpaste would be just the correct size after I cut it down a little.


Photo is a bit fuzzy, but I hope you can see were I made the cut. I then made something to hold the lamp, I didn't have at the time anything thin enough to fix it to, so I used a short piece of 6mm tube. I heated some water and used a drill bit to help bend it enough to look like a tube that wouldn't look out of place.


I then fitted it to the screw top. Put a 3mm led in and tried it out to see if it looked right. It's not in it's final position..


In the office, think it works.



Got loads to do yet though, so I will update has I go along.

Great stuff Rod. I'll have to do some interiors sometime. I like the small details, like the books on the table.

Got some lights fitted to the outside now, two for a sign that will be going on and one to the side entrance and for the office. There is also a wood burner in the office that also lights up.....

Loving the lighting Rod, it looks wonderful! Those pools of light are so atmospheric, you've got it just right - it made me think of Edward Hopper...

A smoke generator in the chimney for the wood burner would be very atmospheric blowing into the cold air with those lights on.

Great idea!

If you do want to fit one Rod get one that is for model building use as if you fit one that is intended for a locomotive it will pump out too much smoke and look like the wood burner is being used to burn illegal documents!

Great idea Tom, never thought about that. I am going to build a brick chimney at the back of the office, so I will need to find a cheap smoke generator so I can get some dimensions and work it in.

Those of you with a busy lineside streetscape could add one of these, flashing light and all...

(There's a whole subculture of this stuff, a lot of it very well done)

Thanks Andrew. It took a bit of work getting the wiring sorted, getting better at soldering in tight places....

Enlighten me please on Edward Hopper....

I shall be adding one of those. I'm tempted by the Pendle Valley one, with optional flashing unit.

I'm not planning a busy streetscape, but I don't think that's necessary. It'll fit in anywhere in time and space.

EH was an American painter in the first half of the 20th Century, lots of isolated figures looking lost and lonely in big cities etc - see https://www.edwardhopper.net/

The atmospheric pools of light you've created in your garage, and your little chap working on his own in the office made me think of his work - here's another favourite:



The female figures in his paintings were always modelled by his wife, incidentally...

Thank you Andrew. I like the way he uses light at different times of the day to show how it gives atmosphere to his painting. Also they are giving us an insight into how we live day by day, although the pace of life was slower in his day, I guess anyone who was to try and paint the same way now, would show us a different pace in how we live.



I like these, although there are some brilliant paintings and I don't want to turn this into an art thread. Maybe start another thread in "Off Topic".




I am not an art critic by the way.. I do like to see great paintings though.

It's been sometime since I updated my thread because of things happing with me. I won't bore you with the why's. Most members know anyway.

Since doing the office, I started on the chimney. I wanted to make it out of real bricks, so I made a start, please bare in mind I never could lay bricks and the following photos will attain the way it looks like a dogs hind leg.


This is the smoke generator I used, I think it does a good job. You will notice that I also put the roof on the office. The clear corrugated sheet was also acquired from Bole Laser Craft.


I said I wasn't a brickie....



Next was putting some guttering and downpipes on. Looking online I thought even though what I found available are extremely good. I thought because of the length of my garage it would be expensive. Funds and all that...
I started with some 5mm plastic pipe and I made a jig for them and cut in the middle of it, putting a steel ruler there to make sure they were cut fairly straight....


Anyway I won't bore you with how I made the downpipes with photos, but it was just simply putting some bigger bore pipe over the intended downpipes.
