Gas torches
Gas torches
Can anyone advise me on the best gas soldering, brazing torch please. I am looking at doing some brass work at some point, and I want to know what is the best or you use. Also what solder is best used with them.

Re: Gas torches
100w Weller soldering iron, small "thick pencil" gas torch from Aldi, blowlamp from B&Q, proper lead solder (not the lead-free rubbish), PowerFlow flux.

B & Q donβt seem to have very good reviews for their torches Tony.
I was looking for ones that could be used with the gas canisters I have for filling my Roundhouse Loco. I have loads of themβ¦β¦

Ah, admittedly mine is a million years old Taymar LG870, but it does use "loco" gas canisters. Ebay could be your friend.

Re: Gas torches
I still use GoGas canisters so I have this screw on blow torch attachment:

Re: Gas torches
I've got a gascat (60 iirc), little gas torch which comes with a few different attachments. The blow torch end is great for soldering large joints and the hot air attachment is great for shrink wrap. Costs about Β£30ish and I love it, oh and using lighter gas.

Re: Gas torches
Thanks Tom, but I have loads of gas canisters for my live steam, so I was intending to use them. I will have a look at the gascat though.Tom the blacksmith wrote: βSat Oct 20, 2018 7:05 pm I've got a gascat (60 iirc), little gas torch which comes with a few different attachments. Re: Gas torches
Hi Rod,
You might be able to use your canisters with it, using the same loco adaptor, I can't remember if it will only work with butane.

Re: Gas torches
Go System works OK and fills the steamers. Sometimes shops like 'Home Bargains' or 'In Excess' sell the canisters really cheaply so I keep several spares to hand stored outside the house.
