My all time favourite is 'M*A*S*H' which I used to video off the BBC in the 1980s. Of course it is now on DVD (sadly with no bonus extras) and I've got them all. Who is the only actor that appeared both in the film 'M*A*S*H' and the series M*A*S*H as the same character.
My next favourite is the BBC's 'Allo Allo', but they have been very slow at releasing this on DVD (a bit like another great series - 'The Simpsons'). Some years ago when I was in London I looked at what cheap tickets I could get for the shows, and spent a very entertaining Matinee watching the stage version of 'Allo Allo'.

Was it 'high hopes'? Just googled welsh sitcom and it was one of the programmes that came up, and it was shown in 03/04. Can't say i've ever heard of it! possibly only carried on tv in Wales. Its still going anyway on bbc2 Wales (I think)ACLR wrote:there was one show we watched when was living in swansea in 2003/4 which realy made us laugh.
trying to think of it now it was a wesh family sitcom
will get back to you on that memory is slipping lol
Martyn
Edit: Just noticed post a few up from this! Oops, I guess it definitely was high hopes!
