Wow! Now you've not only got the say-so but documented it, I'd strike while the iron is hot!

It was a 5 inch gauge battery loco and driving truck on ebay, it has finished but in the end it went higher than I was prepared to pay. It had a few issues and needed work. After a few emails to the buyer it seemed a condsiderably more issue filled than the description let on, including the distinct possibility that someone had let the magic smoke out of the control box and the motor. (For those who don't know, all electrical devices must contain magic smoke in order for them to work. If it escapes the object will never work again. If you don't believe me drop a handful of swarf into something electrical and see for yourself.)

However, the Current Wife has decided that the Son and Heir would like something like this, so a few people I know in the ME fraternity have been contacted and something may be collected in early January. Like most things on the PMR it will need some work, but there is a difference between work that you know is required and nasty surprises from ebay.

It looks like it will cost less than a 16mm secondhand RH bulldog.

It is nice to have the domestic authorities onside for once.

Funny how it goes. My wife is also mostly agreeable with railway purchases as long as I involve my 16 year old son.

So son, you'd far rather have a live steamer than an Xbox One X for Christmas would't you? ;) :?

It would be lovely to have something you could really drive....i'm sure my wife would be happy to put me up for adoption, house trained but messy in the workshop !

This is the only way I can get away with it. It also means that railway related visits are encouraged as "XXXXX would like it"

When the wife grumbles about how much time I spend on the railway it is not beyond the realms of possibility that I am uncharitable enough to adopt the Adam approach and remind her that "it was her idea." Which it was. The last house we lived in was small, so my railway and I were cast out into the yard. This house is much larger so I have been allowed to annex part of the basement as a workshop and space for an indoor layout, but I have successfully negotiated space for a small outside line. :D

Cheers,
Peter in Va

Can’t wait to see it Jim....Anne just accepts that I spend my money on train stuff, she has even bought things herself, so nearly a perfect world, just wish I could get something bigger too, my older brother makes his own larger gauges, but I haven’t the knowledge yet to make even a 16mm one.... :santa:

Looking forward to seeing some pics of that!

My wife is 100% OK with my railway hobby...she is a musician and artist so needs her own expensive "toys" - as we work together in our full time jobs, we're also both happy with each other taking time out for our own hobbies! I'm lucky, right! ?? :)

To be honest, if we all just admit that we have great spouse’s, we could get what we want whenever we want to get what we want....LOL :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa:
