Absolutely stunning work, as we have come to expect, Dazza.
It sounds like you have reached the penultimate milestone....... steaming!!

Fingers and toes crossed - but I have every confidence in your workmanship.

Rik
PS Love the careful work and finish on the safety valve cover and dome btw

FWLR wrote: Sat Mar 26, 2022 7:37 am WOW Dazza, this is the first thing I have read on the forum since my recent illness and I have to say.....What a blooming genius you are. I so do wish I could come and stay with a master like you. You have exceptional skills and show how to achieve it in a way that outshines most. I am sure that we all want to see this thing of beauty steam up and run along your line.
I am having to go for a rest now, because the posting has tired me out and it has taken up my allotted time on the forum
Thanks Rod,
Not really a genius, I still work to scratch a living, no early retirement for me. I just persevere at the toil. This loco was started in 2017 !
You take care.

Thanks Rik, I am a bit anxious of the imminent steaming. Maybe even scared of it. I was supposed to a simple 'Eric' and it morphed into this complicated contraption. I am making the steam raising gizmo at this time, not the fan type but like one that was in a SMT mag. Window frames maybe today, next weekend I am on the full size locos at the Rattler, so some time in April it will steam.

Dazza, I don't do live steam but really appreciate the effort and incredible skill you put into your locomotive build. Everything is finished to the highest possible standard. A true work of engineering artistry!

Thanks Peter.
The real proof is if I can have it steam well, move well under RC and be reliable, all this by the end of the year.

Thank toy for the compliment, however I am confident that I will be remaking the blower valve and Regulator from needle type to a Roundhouse O ring type to work better with the RC Servos.

Just a thought, maybe a ptfe seat in the needle valve could be a solution?

Not much longer till the pressure gauge needle's lifting off the peg, now. That cladding looked a hell of a job, but the result speaks for itself.

Easter, home away from the Plague, away from the Mad Bruce Highway, being immersed in the Red Room . The Servo Block is fitted and all 5 twitch as they should. The boiler is lowered. Final fit up before the test steam is underway.

Mr Spectre asks with frustrated tones "where is your shovel and fire irons for the steam test ?"
"Oh we forgot about those, the lad and I will get cracking onto those after breakfast."
My Spectre sighs, walks off muttering "Nuumptys"

The anticipation rises.... everything set for the first firing (other than the irons!) and the excellent Mintaro red poured to celebrate the occasion. What could top that?
