Knew I forgot something....lol.

After forgetting to ballast the track on the Rolling Stock Box and feeling a bit better after my little setback with my health, i have finally finished the box with some ballast and a little bit of an update on the sides of the divider and side walls of the box.


Looks better i think, when i can get to the shed, i will paint the stops on the track a dirty brown to try and make them look like wooden planks hopefully.........

Got my health a bit more under control, so I am back hopefully to the line. Not done too much though, apart from buying this,

It does have a little solar powered LED inside and the blades do rotate, pretty fast at time’s.

Not much I know but I have got the shed to sort out first, then it’s back to doing more.

If you paint the blades on the windmill I reckon that's a convincing looking mill.

Had two of the grandkids round on Sunday and the Grandson George ran “Patricia Anne” for the 1st time, he did a brilliant job and drove her sat down looking so cool. My Granddaughter Beatrice did have ago along the straight by my garage with my help of course. She loved it, the look on her face…



The chip of paint on the dome was my fault after I tried to take it off while it was very hot, has you can imagine some appropriate words were said and it fell on to the flags from a great height.

This is George doing some Airbrushing on the sails for the Windmill, it was the 1st time he had done anything like that before, he is a natural…

Hi Rod,

You have the gas up too much on your loco the safety should not be blowing off all the time.

For the paint chip strip it all off and have it brass.

The other alternative as you have an airbrush is to respray it. I'm currently doing some touching in on my Lady Anne.

Tom_tom_go, Rod did say in a separate post in the video section that he knew the gas was too high but didn't want to stop his grandson from enjoying running the loco.

IanC is correct, I did say on another thread “VIDEOS” that I did have the gas regulator up to high and I didn’t want to stop George from enjoying himself. In hindsight I should of turned it down, only takes a few seconds, also I should of mentioned it on this thread

For the dome, I might well have it all brass, would it be easy enough to strip it Tom ?

Thanks Ian for your comment and suggestion, need to get some paint and may well touch it up. I think it’s RA004, I could be very wrong with that though

Thanks Kevin, he really did enjoy himself, just a few more turns at driving it and he can come with me to some local steam ups. I have a family 16mm association membership, so the insurance side of it is taken care of.

Just wish there was some local steam ups near to me in Preston.

Yes touching up is possible. I've just done it on my maroon Lady Anne and also painted some replacement tank filler lids. which came in brass. Depending on the chip, my preference would be to repaint the whole dome rather than touching up. Any damage will be less obvious. Paint matching is not easy as Roundhouse moved from using automotive paint descriptions to RAL colours and BS codes. There is a list of them on their web site. Maroon is RAL3004 available in tinlets from Phoenix Precision Paints.

Just this minute ordered some RAL3004 from Phoenix, so will have ago at repainting the dome.

Do you know how to remove the old paint and would I need a primer for the new paint.

You could heat and scrape the paint off the dome or get some paint stripper and leave it on for a few hours.

I've just painted two new tank fillers. Yes definately use primer. Etch primer is preferred. I used black primer, but the RAL3004 is too dark now so I'm going to strip them back to bare metal and use grey primer.

If the paint is enamel there are a number of methods to remove it. Personally I wouldn't resort to scraping with anything too hard for fear of scratching or scoring the surface and spoiling the final finish.

A paint stripper from a DIY store may remove the paint. Super Strip also from Phoenix is also very good, albeit expensive. Some people have reported using IPA (Iso Propyl Alcohol not Inda Pale Ale) Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner, Dot 4 brake fluid and even Dettol athough I haven't tried any of them. I've also used, outdoors, Caustic soda.

I'm also about to paint a dome in body colour. Depending on progress I'll post pictures here if you like, or on another thread.
