Fossil fuels.

Post by Matt » Fri Dec 14, 2007 1:45 pm

The world is warming up quickly, all because of CO2 from fossil fuels. Now I don't think we need to worry about the damage to the enviroment our enhines are doing, but there is a problem with our gas fired engines.

What are we going to do when the gas runs out, or start to run out and prices go up?

Isn't gas constantly being made by the world?

Yeah, but its the wrong type  . The gas we use takes millions of years to form, and we are using it up about a billion times faster than it's being made.

However, if gas does run out, we could go green and use bio-oil.

Nah we would just convert our engines to meths or coal. And when we run out of meths use whiskey. (It works Ive done it).

Whilst on the subject of green fuels, have you heard about a new narrow gauge steam raiulway in Northumbria? Its called 'The Green Dragon Railway', after its main engine, and is going to be Britains first eco friendly steam railway :D . It's still under construction at the moment, but should be open in a year or two.

Nah. They're using wood burning engines. The reason why it'll be eco friendly it that the new line runs through a forest, so any CO2 produced by the trains is almost instantly processed back into oxygen by the trees.

Clever  .

And if they run out of wood they can just stop the train and cut down a tree.
Then replant it to stop the greenies complaining.

Well the engines they're using are already green. They've currently got two. A british built 0-4-2 loco built for a suger mill somewhere, and a german built 0-8-0. So if your wanting to vist a german railway, you'll won't have to travel all the way to Germany.

That'll be helpful.

Its going to be in an area called 'Kielder' in Northumbria, but I don't think it'll be open when you vist ACLR :( . Maybe if you come back in a couple of years time, then it'll probley be up and running.

Another possible eco-friendly line of the furture will be the Southwold Railway. That line closed in 1929, but a good are trying to reopen it using replica engines that run on bio-oil. The problem is that the residents of Southwold don't want a 3 foot gauge railway running through their town. They say it'll bring the tourists in.

Well from what I've heard, a large pecentage of the population of Southwold are pensioners, who don't like the idea of their town full of people staying up untill about 4 in the moring.

No! No! No! Not railway enthusiasts. They see it as a domino effect. First come the train enthusiasts, then their families, then their friends, and so so on.
