Variable speed controller

Post by listerboy » Sun Jul 03, 2016 9:55 am

Would anybody have a circuit board diagram for an electronic speed controller for a loco powered by 8 C cell batteries, powering a Bachmann tram chassis?

Thanks

What ESC are you using?

Have a look at the Deltang transmitters and receivers. You may like to build your own Deltang transmitter. The receicers have an integrated ESC. And they are very small.

Sorry, I possibly worded that wrongly! I meant a speed controller using a variable potentiometer. Sorry for any confusion caused!

You could probably find quite a few circuits on the web by searching for PWM motor controller. However, doing a search on eBay for the same will give you quite a few which are cheaper than you'd be able to make them - especially if you're prepared to wait for one to come from China - eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361465386236

Or splash out a bit more and you can get one with a direction switch - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182003602041

I have built numerous speed controllers for various projects over the years. I built a PWM (Pulse width Modulation) for my 5 inch & to be honest I could have bought a built unit from china for about a quarter of the price.
The main control unit for the HO layout & for a G Gauge layout were Transistor based circuits, but again a complete unit off Evil Bay costs less than the components.
Electronic controllers are the only realistic option, Resistor based units are bulky, highly inefficient & not worth the hassle.
Hope this helps.
The only thing worth Training for.
