Deltang Rx60 in a IP Koppel Engine

Hello
I'm just into building my IP Koppel engine, and have just learned about low-melt-soldering.
But when building this engine there is a little problem about making space in the chassis for the batterybox that followed the kit.
I have ordered a Deltang Rx60 receiver and a Tx-20 transmitter to operate the little engine.
Could I use a 9volt battery instead of the batterybox containing 2 AAA-batteries?
The motor runs well with 3volt. Will the 9volt battery make any harm to the motor, or does the Rx60 regulate the current enough. Or should I put in some resistors to protect the engine?

Hi Kjell,
I have an IP loco and a Deltang controller, and they work fine on 9v. Full voltage makes the loco go too fast, but it is easy to control the speed.

Deltang is great stuff and will work well. However if you do run any 3v motor on a 9v battery, if you use too much throttle then you will melt the motor, no question about it. Be careful especially if pulling loads, or better still check with IP on what voltage the motor can safely handle.
Just checked for you, 4.8v is the most recommended if using a speed controller.

I have almost finished the construction of the Koppel Engine and its Deltang r/c-controll.
Here is a pic of the little engine on the Pine Hill Railway (PHRy).
The engine has just left the paintshop after some heavy weathering ...
But I have some questions about the Deltang Controlls:
I have installed 4 AAA NiMH rechargeble batteries which gives 4,8V. According to "steves" this should be allright.
See the pic of the underframe with batteries and receiver installed.
Connecting (binding) the transmitter and receiver works well.
Running on low speed works also fine.
But when turning the trottle up to max speed, the engine suddenly runs away at full speed with no controll.
And the green light on the receiver starts flashing.
What is wrong? Any ideas?

The sudden increase in current draw might cause a voltage drop which in turn causes a brown-out in the receiver.

If the rx is flashing with 5 flashes, then it's definitely a brown out -ie the voltage to the receiver is dropping below what it needs (around 3.2v)
BTW - really like the loco -looks good, Kjell.

Problem actually solved: Just keep the batteries full charged and don't run at high speed.
My charger evaluetes the cells condition before charging. Charging takes not more than one hour. Then the engine runs well for 2-3 hours.

Cold weather does not help. Voltage drops when it is cold. Most cell chemistries do not like low temps.
