Is it just my imagination or do these pumps make weird noises..?
It is a nice, interesting touch to the locomotive. Good idea!

I was going to ask as well Dave what is that noise, do you have a parrot? Please say you have a parrot!

I've always felt that pumps on small locos unless of tiny bore, often lead to a jerky motion ( approx 1/3 of the wheel rotation has more load as the
pump is on the pressure stroke) I wonder if two pumps could help to even that out?

Is it because it’s running dry?

Maybe it was a background noise, the little noise maker was nearby watching a DVD

That could be, it's like the sound is synchronized to the movement in the video, so that's why I asked..

I've just finished making the second pump. I was enthused and leapt into action on Thursday. It was a lot quicker being able to copy the first one. I made a YouTube instructionable

I finally manned-up and started on the saddle tank. Lots of procrastination about formers and bending rolls. But, I used some 0.9 mm copper sheet that I had got in for something else but never used. Once annealed it bent over the brass end pieces beautifully without any former or rolls. The top sheet isn't fully connected yet but I thought I'd see how it all looks. The brass end pieces were first silver brazed to the semi-circular copper tank inner piece.

I think it looks more like the small quarry Hunslet, and if it does, it doesn't need the big large quarry dome

Dave, thanks for sharing this. If I am seeing correctly, you have the pump ball falling onto and sealing against a Viton O ring, that makes good sense. I reckon I will up date my drawings. Most have the ball rattling against a metal seat. If I may ask you a few questions,
what size ball,
Size of O Ring ?
Orifice size ?

Working on the saddle tank. The filler bush was contoured to the tank top then brazed into position. Then the filler was bored through with my new hole saw. The 0.9 mm sheet copper tank wrapper was sufficiently rigid to take the boring.

Whilst the tank is structurally brazed together it was not watertight due to some anomalies... So I sealed it with soft soldered, much like how boilers were sealed in the good old days

Yes I hope to also fire it by gas or liquid fuel

I've just soldered in the water return pipes for the bypass valves. Hopefully the water won't shoot out of the filler
