Happy Birthday mate, I'm sure the real reason you went was to see the 'Livingston Thompson' ;) .

Not NG, but I'd give an awful lot to see the 'Star' in steam. Probably never will, though :(

Does anyone here know why there's an ugly shed on the turntable :?

Looks like a DB Class 66, probably somthing to do with their take over of EWS (I think), they may have even paid the NRM for that advertising. The engine on the turntable gets changed quite frequently.

The 66 may well be there for naming, the NRM turntable is quite often used for ceremonies.

Good to see Scotsman back on her wheels 8) When I was there for work experience back in September only the centre wheelset was fitted.

I thought EWS had always been owned by DB :?

Anyway, pauly I know what you mean about getting pics in the NRM. Museum's are the worst place to try and get pics without using flash.

I tried my best, however, when I was there last July but The Station Hall is the worst offender for bad lighting.

Nice pics, given the conditions, the 66 was there for the official unveiling of the new DB livery I think, I always get the feeling the Livingstone Thompson isn't displayed properly but I can't think of where they could show it to its best advantage.
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

I find most museums are like this, the thing is, with rooms that big, lighting is always goign to be a problem, It's hard to get results without a tripod and good results require an SLR, it's the same with exhibitions.

Enviromentalists would complain if it was well lit, and there'd be a tax hike to pay for the leccy bill.

I believe the Station Hall is deliberately dimly-lit to give a better impression of what it was like during its working life as a goods warehouse. I am reliably informed that it was even darker in those days - and men had to work in those conditions!
