I could swear there used to be a smiley for "what he said!"

Even the ground cover looks just right. You must be trimming it constantly?

I think all the chainsaw dust and chips have had some influence Aaron, this is a new type of growth.
To finish off the stockyard, the gates that swing out to close the gap between the cattle truck and the race needed replacing as made of wood and in the VR design of double timbering I was sick of painting them. Particularly between the doubled bits (alright for 12" to the foot scale) so made new ones out of 2mm styrene. They do look plastic but I hope a natural bit of weathering will take place. The old ones in the foreground of the pic.

A week of sunshine has got me in a maintenance mood, so thought I would attack the turntable at Leawarra. The ply "ground" under the table had swollen up and was impeding the action of the table. Cut out some new ones, and two coats of paint saw them (two halves) ready to go back in. Removed the table and cleaned and replaced the grease in the ball bearings, spread some sand in a third coat of wet paint topped with another coat and Bob's your uncle.

Looks good Grant.
I think the plastic gates would be improved visually by "graining" them with a saw blade or similar. That would take the shiny plastic effect off and give somewhere for natural grot to accumulate. As usual Peter B is the man to emulate for things like this!

I think I've used course sandpaper for finished parts where it's too late to take a saw to them. Hard to get in the corners, but it gives an impression...

The things I know as daddy long legs aren't spiders, they're a different type of arachnid... but maybe one or both of those are names for them.... who knows?

Been catching up on some railway maintenance as we are having some sunny but cool days.
Firstly Nayook got bitumen laid around the station building and tank, as well as a new tank stand. Rotting sign posts were also replaced.

It's probably hard to notice the difference, but the building is now on a single large paver ( previously on several small ones and hard to all keep level)

Secondly Warringine, which has always had a very crude building built when I had just started the railway, finally earned a "Mallee Shed" with Office/Store. It had to be very heavy as possums use it as a foot stool to go up the post behind it, so its a solid Red Gum block and heavy steel walls.

Much pruning has also being going on after a lot of winter growth this year.

Very nice model.

Iconic VR branchline structure, used on both bg and ng lines. I only recently found out my local station was an example of this version of a 'Mallee Shed'.

I can almost hear the exhaust beat of a D3 labouring up the bank and the wail of a chime whistle for the level crossing........

Interesting you say your local was this type, I got all the dimensions from the Victorian Railways plan for one with store and without. Then went in search of pictures to find that I don't think any two were the same. I had missed the wall that extended to the left of the store, but discovered many didn't have that either, you can have a win sometimes.
