Put the railway up today and did some more testing.

Won't break any haulage records just yet but it goes round the curves a dream!

Wonder how many Garratts can go round 2'6" reverse curves?

The livery will be based on the FR railway green. Basically black superstructure with large green panels lined in red. The wheels will be black with white tyres and red coupling rods.

It might anoy those who don't like oscillators - the cylinders are more exposed and waggley than ever!

Does work nicely now, your layout suits it very well, all those tight curves just demonstrate the articulation, when the first real one goes over Britania bridge it will be quite interesting in this sense. My faviroute video is the one from the train, just really shows it off nicely.

Mamod Mallet would make a nice project for you next, name also has a nice ring.

That would be a challenge! A compound Mamod - I would have to make the larger cylinders though! In any case I already have my next Mamod loco project in mind, its big, it will take some time to complete, but I may make a start on it this year...

Technically yes, as that it what is shown on the original Mallet patent and how the original engines were built - small high pressure cylinders on the fixed rear engine, and large low pressure on the swivelling front bogie. However, it does seem that the term Mallet was often used to describe non-compounding engines of similar wheel arrangements.

I still have plenty to do on my existing 4 Mamod based steam locomotives at the moment!

The only loco that I may want to add to my collection is a completely original Mamod SL, mainly as to use as a 'before' in any 'before and after' type comparisons with the modified ones!!

was made aware of your wonderful Locos via another topic on this forum (Photograhphs...Locos of Austerity and Thrift) when Pete admiring my OTT mamod conversion put up a photo of one of your conversions...all this has spurned me on to the next project.

PS i cheated a little with a kit from Pretina (had to negotiate hard as he had stopped doing them and was trying to charge a lot...easy to do, didn't use all the parts ...but its a show stopper.
Now i've seen how its done..its easy ish!
