I have had a few other ideas as to what to build, however I would still like to build the WHR's observation coach as i don't think the IP engineering one will be to the actual scale size and certainly won't have the amount of interior detail that I think i could put into it.. The other ideas i have are FR observation 102 or L&B first class observation 1 or 2.

Make the WHR coach. Whos to say IPs one will be out for stoneleigh? Hes said the next thing he wants out is a full GVT set. I go with the throught it will probley be late next year before its out.

I am currently having problems with the drawings for this coach. I emailed Adrian Gray at the Ffr and he said he would be able to get me a copy of the drawings by the weekend, that was two weeks ago! This is why I said I had drawings, as I thought I would have them a couple of days later. I understand that sourcing me drawngs probably isn't his priority but if I can't get them soon I will have to move onto something else as I must get started ASAP, this will probably be one of the FR observation coaches, probably 102.

I have now decided to build the FR observation car as i don't think that realistically I now have enough time to build the Pullman whilst making a good job of it. I also think I can incorporate some nice features into the observation (more on that at another time!)

I got the drawings for the FR obs but have decided not to build this either, instead i am going to finish something that I have already started. I'll post pics of progress soon

If I could enter, I would put in a coach kit that has been modified to look the mutts nuts. Like a varnished mahogany interior, black wheels with white rims, full interior illumination etc. I'm sure that if you put the effort into a kit, you could get a prize

Why can't you enter? If a kit was entered I think it would have to be something really special, seeing as most of it won't be your own work,

I can't enter because I live on the South West Coast of Scotland which is a long way away from Coventry & seeing as I can't drive yet, it's near impossible to get there. Save up some money and book train tickets in advance (cheaper that way), or coach tickets. Always a way off getting there, one way or another.

My MOTY entry is what you see below, yep, another colourful carriage as the WHR rainbow trains. I think this has more scope for detail than the last entry, particularly for the gaurds compartment interior. To progress I need to get some more ply to construct the 20 droplights (two for each window to sandwich the glass) It needs to be thin so the width of the coach isn't too thick. The other side is done to the same level as the one in the pic but didn't think you needed to see the same twice. The end with the windows still needs to have them cut out and of course painted.
I have never seen a this coach in this livery before. Even the ones that are painted in rainbow colours are the green, probably because the actual livery was up for debate, however this was a best guess by the carriage dept at the WHHR.
Russell is also about to enter the workshop for the treatment, more on that in the appropriate thread. Thinking about building the workmans carriage next, sometime toward the end of the year realistically!

Geography is not on your side, but it is possible - just - to get from Stranraer to Coventry and back in a day by train. Advance return fares from £33 are available with a railcard. A decent travel agent (http://www.festtravel.co.uk/traintickets.htm for example) would get you the best deal.

Perhaps a better option would be to find a friend who can put you up for either the Friday or Saturday night, so splitting your journey over two days.

droplights done, interior layer of one side done. Now to get some more paint, finish off the other side and start actually building the thing. Just realised that all the bits are going to total way over my origional estimate!

(some I could make myself though, but time is an issue and I'd rather make sure it gets finished to a good standard) Pics when I get the bits painted.

As I couldn't get some more paint I thought i would have a go at something that didn't need it to carry on, these were the duckets. When i built my curly roofed van the duckets were quite hard so wasn't looking forward to making them. However I found them pretty easy, probably due to these ones not having curves as tight. Pics below show the result, i'm quite pleased with them. Also varnished the interior layer. Will be having a go at the overlays tonight.

Managed to get the paint so got on with painting the bits that were in primer. The pics below show the completed duckets, less glazing and paint on the inside. Also not shown are the droplight window frames, half of them varnished for the interior and the other half painted yellow. Duckets have not been fixed in place which is why they might look wonky in the picture, I need to cut a square in the side .
