Thanks re the rust......John RUSKIN (Victorian thinker/artist) said about iron..
'iron rusted is Living; but when pure or polished, Dead.'
Says it all....though I have no idea what on earth he was on about in the rest of the paper...tremedous stuff.... 'The work of Iron, in Nature,Art, and Policy.......see not thick, just clueless.

Something unusual, eh?
The wheelbase is, sadly, all wrong for turning it round and turning it into a GS&WR 0-4-4 back tank. (Wish I could find a copyright-free photo of one of those to post, they were quite extraordinary locos!) Drew Donaldson built an O gauge clockwork one, which IIRC is in the Irish Railway Collection at Cultra.

Having had a thought or two said Pooh Bear I suggest Crackingjob tries a Loco based on one of Mr Stowells Emett type locos as found at Andy garden railways guide
http://www.wis.co.uk/andy/16mm/unusual_locos.html
I hope mr stowell and Andy will forgive me these photos taken by the late Colin Binnie
Pooh Bear (a Bear of very little brain).
The basic clockwork loco Cracking job has to work on
Stowell 4-4-0.....live steam!
Stowell live steam built on a Burton Jinty chassis

In the end I have gone for something a little more traditional
I came accross an article in Narrow Lines (1996) re a Hunslet Loco proposed for Lynton and Barnstaple, but never was. The author had got that from a Railway Constructor mag in the 80's (last century for you youngsters).
When I get the scanner fixed I will try to put up what the outline looked like.....but I have made a start, building as old 16mmers did, around a clockwork (sorry springdrive) motor.....
NEW??? all L&B lococ had/have names of 3 letters after rivers....incase they get upset if I pinch one and cause confusion...I played safe...the loco that NEver Was = NEW
Its early days, wheels etc to sort out...but here are the spy photos (my excuse for rubbish) of the construction.
Crackingjob (proving I don't do just AWNUTS...just a little)
