A wee update...

Rèile Aotrom Mhàlainn. Full Line Tour starring Baskerville negotiating rough track.


Track layout now almost finalised; should be able to start making it permanent by the end of this week. Waiting on some materials from the mainland but Storm Bram has other ideas!

Wow, I hadn't realised how long a run you will have.... nor how much earthworks will be involved!

If your soil is as sandy as you say, will it be stable enough to withstand your weather up there? I think I'd be tempted to build it as a raised line on posts and simply use the soil cosmetically?

It seems quite stable in the two bits I've made so far but it's mostly going to be the guttering, blocks and posts that give the structure.
I may need to rethink once Storm Bram has passed...

Happy birthday (for yesterday?) that's a great run. I like the end to end with balloon and branch design, lots of scope for different kinds of running.

I'm intrigued by what role the French horn plays?

Ah. The horn(s). There are 4 of them dotted around the garden (non-functional) and another 7 in the house (functional). I'm a horn player...
The one at the end of the siding is propping the buffer stop up...

Oh!, I'm so glad Simon asked that question, cause I was just about to. At first I thought it was a metal funnel, then saw more of it in the second video.
I found I had to build natural rock walls on my sandy embankment, as it moves so easily. Then sit the track on cement pavers on top.

Looks like you've successfully eliminated the tight curves from your previous layout and given yourself a really long run. Also, from the look of it, there's even more scope for expansion of the harbour branch.
