Sounds like something out of Far Tottering. An economy measure, perhaps? Cuts down on axle grease usage by a quarter!

You might have more luck modifying this model: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2109286 The hood details are similar, the buffer beam and cab roof are a bit different, and of course it's missing the second hood. Searching for "Gmeinder diesellok 600mm" gives similar results, though seemingly also all with only one hood. (It does seem like the second hood is shorter, and missing any louvers on the sides, so I wonder if it was just used for a fuel tank or toolbox or something.)

The caption for that image says it's a Regner RSSB loco based on an O&K original, but not yet tracked down the real thing

Fresh from all of these centre-cab discussions, I was having a little read of the latest SMT and on p44 there was... well, more of an off-centre cab loco, this Jung Motorloc at the Katwijk Narrow Gauge Museum.

Why does it remind me of a motorised shoe?

I think some of that, may be due to the speed controller?

SW (amazingly) said she liked one of the Regner centre-cab loco's which was in a member to member sale, so I was allowed to purchase it. - The fact it had been converted to battery by Graham (Garden Railways Limited) with a RC Trains transmitter didn't sway me, honest!

It is fitted with NiMH batteries, so space constraints mean it is a little slow.. - I must fit a 3S Lithium pack.

I will dig it out, and see if it is as noisy? - It could also be the AGC on the phone, I suppose?

I noticed all the Regner locos in that video sounded noisy. Not sure if it is the drive mechanisms or, as you say, some other contributor.

This somehow makes me think I got a bit of a bargain - either that or this Phil Sharples loco is a tad over-priced. EDIT It says it's radio controlled but there's no handset - so not sure what kit is inside.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what that receiver/controller might be? With that large capacitor(?) it might be an early Deltang or maybe a Micron?

Correction - I later spotted it is RC, though without a handset (see above). Still over-priced though. Even a new Micron MR603 is around £45 - leaving £80 for the loco?????

£45 each for the loco and MR603,is £90.
A tenner for batteries, and other electronics..
So £25 for the build/paint.

Seems a fair price? - I would expect it could have been put together in a couple of hours, if you cracked-on?

There seem to be a number of EvilBay sellers who I think like building, and then sell their creations on?

Your new loco is certainly a sweet little runner. Looking forward to seeing your unique spin on it.

OK. So things are progressing, albeit slowly.

After looking closely at the photo of the prototype loco, it was apparent that the cab isn't central and so, I decided to move the cab on the HGLW loco back by around 15mm. This required a considerable amount of hacking with razor saw and Stanley knife. The bonnets were duly modified and printed out. These were attached, together with window frames and the model given a couple of coats of Halfords plastic filler primer. So far so good.
However, when the primer dried, I discovered it has reacted badly with whatever was used to paint the loco previously.
So, it's going to require a lot more filling and sanding.

In many ways, it would have been a lot simpler to have 3D printed the whole body - but (like TV's Repair Shop) I wanted to retain as much of the original as possible. Ho hummmm ......

You could always weather/rust it?

Though it may take as much time as filling and flatting?

I love The Repair Shop. always keep as much as you can

I have had this a number of times spraying over old paint. Unless you manage to remove it all, unfortunately I fear it might keep reacting.

Me too. I've usually got around it by filling and rubbing down the affected areas, but it's always a bit of a gamble.
If all else fails, I'll just 3D print the whole body.

I've now done a bit of remedial work.
Still some small areas of filling and flatting to be done, but the worst crevasses seem to have gone.


In the meantime, I've been painting some of the cab interior detailing. Sorry about the major surgery to the driver, but it's the only way I can fit him in.
