What a coincidence! I've recently started Guard training at Ruislip Lido. Yesterday morning I had to take three coaches out of the main nine-coach set - one from each end and one from the middle - and swap them for three others with lower mileages. It took over an hour, but we got there!

Then I carried on doing my supervised round trips, which all went swimmingly until the end of the day when Graham Alexander's gearbox decided to completely seize on the single line just outside Water's Edge station...but I had to leave the engineers to solve that problem!

I haven't been taught how to do that yet. my training so far has been with passenger train operations.

I made a simple pair of regauged wheels with IP engineering wheels and axil and a wooden made axil box for the back pony truck for RIVER BUTLEY inorder that it can be run on the MHLR on friday or thursday (have not decided yet!) It is really a 5 minuit job, a block of pine with 3 holes driled in it but is perfectly addiquit!

I built a Slaters brass Festiniog slate waggon kit. All very nice but a bit fiddly. I would have saved a load of time and trouble had I ignored the instructions and soldered the brass axle bearings into the whitemetal axleboxes on the first place. After three attempts at gluing (as the instructions said) I still could not get them to stick properly and they kept coming loose and rotating. They are now soldered and are going nowhere!

Yesterday I finished building my rake of scrathbuilt slate wagons. All they need now is a coat of spray paint. wish it wasnt raining!
today i am going to try and finish off my last FR bug box, fit it with lighting and removable roof and finish fitting the regaugeable wheels. then prepare the other FR bug boxes for regaugable wheels. Just have to wait for them to arrive from IP engineering.

I've got one of those to build, I have'nt started it yet though as I need a rivet tool, where can I get one from?

I just used a centre punch, which seems to have worked nicely.

This week I have mostly been making...

...Nameplates!

And whilst the CNC machine cnc's, and the paint dries, I've been mamodifying an old Salem Loco and a Mike Chaney Kitten!

Salem loco is now gas fired, shorter, new couplings, new bufferbeams, some new detail parts, spectacle rings, cab steps etc. Needs a chimney cap and a nice shiny brass dome too!

The Chaney Kitten is in for a repaint and a few small modifications, a new sight glass with blow down valve, and of course, both loco's will have a few brass plates added!

I've removed the huge overhanging running plate from the front, and brought the bufferbeams in, front and back, so there's a little less overhang. Also straightened up the sidetanks so they sit level, a few small little mods really, plus some 'SALEM LOCO WORKS' worksplates, loco numbers, nameplates and 'REBUILT 2009' plates!

Adding some small details to the cab, and maybe a manifold so I can fit a 3/8 diameter whistle in a side tank.

haha! Looks like an upper class mamod! (runs for cover) Today I ordered 3 sets of name plates for RIVER BUTLEY, RIVER DEBEN and RIVER ALDE (can you spot the theme??!), a sumerlands chuff pipe for my millie (RIVER DEBEN) and a regulator, oiler, and new O ring cylinders for a friend's mamod that I am fixing all from PPS steam.

Thanks! I'll guarantee that the couplings won't pull off and the floor won't collapse, unlike some of the Minffordd examples.
