The CVLR gets it's new home (WIP railway & stock)

I was wondering what those DRS mk3's were doing there, I only caught a quick glimpse of them as I have to watch my speed there & reign the 390 in before the TASS kicks in & shouts at me as it's only 120mph past Wembley & then 125mph just before Wembley central. So your lot have those mk3's then? They are supposed to be good ones as well, better than those knackers we hired after Grayrigg anyway.

BTW I have forgotten already but are you 32mm or 45mm? If you are 32mm you will have to come down when I get some more track down as I would love to see how a VOR loco handles the line.

Nothing wrong with the ones you hired in, they earned us some good money, even more so when they where in use everyday. Ive not been on the new ones yet, but the MD wouldn't buy them when Stobbart tried to sell them. They wanted too much, believe the top half is very nice but the running gear hadn't been touched, so things must have changed when DRS put them on the market.

The one true gauge for my fleet Sir, god's 32mm. To be honest the VoR can be batterd into either gauge, just need the pony and trailing wheels changing. An invite to run is always welcome. Hopefully this time next year I should be starting my own line and can return the favour.

Nothing wrong with the ones you hired in, they earned us some good money, even more so when they where in use everyday.  

They seemed a bit rough riding when we had them, perhaps that was down to running flat out with euston men at the helm, they only have two throttle positions off & on & the same for braking off or full service!! Nutters! My toes were curling when road learning with one of them, I found 65mph at the platform up ramp a tad on the quick side for a station stop!!

Glad to hear you are 32mm as well, when I finally finish off the one side with return loop then we will have to have a steam up down here....Work shifts permitting of course!

A little bit more tinkering today but broken up due to house chores, actually the last bits & pieces we stored at the mother in laws for the house move brought back today & stuck up the loft. Talking of which, the loft is massive. Would make a great 00 layout space..... Hmmmm!

Anyway both rugga translator/brakevan vehicles completed. One as a CVLR built standard & the other with Ad-Hoc weather protection fitted.

I now which one I would rather ride in during bad weather.

Real rust fun with Ruggas.... Looks like RMS Titanic now!


My current entire collection of rugga wagons (crazy ones & standard), all now in use by the P-Way dept hence the rather ropey condition of the stock. BTW the black bits on some of the wagons is the first stage of more real rust being applied. Must get some more tippers & chassis for more one off's.



Oh & the Jessie's gearbox is fubar again!! I hate this loco now!..... Well thats a bit unfair, I just hate the gearboxes (all 3 of them so far).

The skip frame creations are brilliant! - takes me back to my early forays into 009, I never thought of doing the same in 16mm!!

is it possible that the high quality transmissions readily available to the O gauge market could fit the Jessie?

The skip coupling adaptor is a good idea - and no burnt fingers as with my one. As I still haven't made another one of mine, I think I'll fit one of yours instead!

Thats a good idea, I will have to look into that as I can't seem to find a good easy solution pressing on with that plastic box.
Maplin sell a gearbox set for use in there crane models, it just looks a little fragile in the gear department, something that the IP one is not. Never stripped a gear on the Jessie, just tears the gearbox chassis apart instead.

Privvy brake is the first thing I thought of when I finished it as well, should of put a toilet seat on the inside really thinking about it.

The adapter seems to work well, I have slightly weighted the other end of the vehicle to compensate for the metal chopper body. It fits straight over the exisiting binnie coupler T piece as well, if you reused the bolt that holds the chopper hook on I reckon you could tighten it on enough that glue would not be needed either.

Cheers for that tip off Ian, I've had a quick look at the website & it looks like they make a good selection of boxes, just need to sort out of I want to keep the existing motor or start afresh. On a plus side I have glued/soldered & wedged the gearbox with wood & it's ran ok today, surges a bit at low speed though.

I had planned to get some materials in today for the next stage of the line, however the water board decided to dig my drive entrance up today & left me stranded on my property!! Nevermind, cracked on with a few loose ends & as it kept raining on & off decided it was a diesel day! Good job last night I fixed my Jack (motor connector had come unsoldered after I accidently rammed it up the bottom with my carrie!) & Jessie (Bodged the gearbox up to a brand new level of bodging!).
Decided it was time to iron out a few bits on the existing formations & diesel power was ideal for that with it's on & offness.


The Rugga rake gets a trip out on P-way duties.


The "Real rust" is looking as good as I hoped.


Sorted out a few clearence issues on Lens crossing..




And just ran some trains between the rain.

I take it you are not expecting to run any larger engines on the line?  as some of the clearances look pretty tight.

I was just thinking the same, Im sure my VoR will make some of its own alterations to the line when it gets a run

If a carrie goes round most other things will. Its strange but carrie requires more clearance than an NGG16. this was found out a year of two ago at an open day

Thanks for the positive replies, still loads to do but did add another 3 signals today so it's coming on.

As for clearence issue's, well the line is designed for the stock I currently have (Biggest being Edrig, Carrie & NWNGR massive bogie coaches). All these fit within the loading gauge with room to spare. I of course expect overtime that something will be out of gauge & when that happens will shave bits to accomodate just like the real railway. As the next loco purchase may either be an Earl or something similar I think that will be ok?
Easy enough to increase the loading gauge in most places anyway.

Been flat out with work & family the last week, so not much to update.
Have done a little bit though inbetween.



4 more signals were built & installed. 3 are single arm affairs & then one junction signal with call on arm for siding.


Tonight after thinking about a way to brighten up my ex LGB coaches I tried out a few livery choices & ended up with this. Converted one to be a brakend which is the bit in "Virgin red" of all colours. It's based on something where the brakend was a different colour but can't remember what that is??

Then my daughter, Scarlett & I (& the cat Len) had an hour or so just running trains on sunday. Just diesels & my carrie in push pull mode on the ex LGB coaches before I altered the livery.



Who say's men can't multitask, looking after my daughter, taking pics & running a manual control steam engine...





I'm just happy my 9 month old girl takes such an interest in the railway, as much as the wife wants her to have dolls & girly stuff.

Must say, the new livery suites the coaches and the signalling scheme is the business. You must talk to me about finials at some point!

Don't worry if Scarlett goes through a girlie phase - you can always buy her "Sylvanian Families" toys to play with - LOADS of 16mm "ish" items in that range!
