Beatifull, i can see youve done only 10% of the garden up till now so this may going to be the longest thread ever here on GRF

Well after last week off work it was back to it this week. Combined with rain not much has happened on the line itself. Instead it's been stuff in the works.

No1, My 21 year old mamod got fixed first & ran over the line. Kind of fitting as it was this loco that started the original CVLR 21 years ago. Of course this being a mamod it ran perfectly after I sorted out the gas burner, got the video camera out & it played up, put camera away & fixed a few small steam leaks & it ran awesome, the best it ever has!!!





Then it managed to blow the end cap off the upgraded piston!  :evil:  The end cap now is such a loose fit that I can't get it to seal up at all now......


Must of been getting some good pressure to those pistons.  :roll:

Finally got around to building a Cambrian signal kit I have had for ages only to find a load of parts were missing from the sealed bag!!

Instructions said to use a wooden square section, ignored that & used brass square section instead. Actually really impressed with the kit & may get some more.


Then decided to refit the roof vent on my Carrie & ended up getting a little carried away.....


....Looking to fit RC & trying to see what was there....


...Then decided I could not stand the midland maroon anymore. ..


...Well it's a start, parts only resting on whilst I plan the rest of it. Looking to line it out as per BR standard green loco's. But as I am terrible at painting I am looking for transfers from maybe 7mm scale?? I don't know yet. Done a bit of tidying up on the cab controls & wheels & frames.

Carrie does look good in green, but I still think it looks good in maroon.

How did you re-paint it, strip it all back, prime it then spray the green ontop?

(by the way, liking the red cranks )

The original maroon paint was getting pretty tired, after removing the stick on metal numbers the previous owner had fitted & then it getting derailed by my friends son left bits where the paint was chipped/worn & even gouged through. So it was always planned to repaint it at some point in my lines company colours. As I was stripping it down ready to look at installing RC gear it just happened now rather than later..

Actually just keyed the original paint with fine paper & removed the blemishes before a light primer coat & then 3 coats of Railmatch GWR. Did not take it back to bare metal due to all the rivet detail on the body.  Hopefully it will be ok like that? Still after some lining transfers or similar..Any idea's?
Oh & as for the red cranks, well....everyone else had some...

My line is more pre nationalisation than that, more Great Western than BR(W) although still a private company after the grouping act it still has a close link with the GWR. (Some say it is very close to a few GWR staff that "Borrow" certain GWR supplies to help keep the CVLR going, certainly seems to be a lot of GWR type paint knocking around in the shed!!)

No 1 running although as said, it was going a lot smoother before I got the camera out. As the old saying goes for film makers "Never work with children or animals or mamods".

Well No 10 (RH Carrie) is complete paintwise bar a few touchups to detail. It had it's first run as a western inspired loco & it went really well (maybe it was the midland maroon affecting it after all!! )

I felt it rude not to clear the black paint off the SV cover & chimney cap & polish them up a bit.....Well it is in GWR green after all!

A few pics of it before/during & after this evenings run in trials.

Actually after that pic, the green really suits it

Looks actually really nice, wasn't expecting that after the pics of just the side tanks. Some lining would really top it off though

I'm happy with how it's turned out.

As said it will be lined, currently just looking into that. It will also have CVLR number plates (as per my mamods with CVLR/ loco number & build date). It is already named (in my head & will receive plates soon) in line with almost all the other named loco's on the line to the same theme

I will give you a clue what that is by naming the ones in this theme so far.

No 1 "Phoenix"
No 7 "Fire-Fly"
No 11 "Tin Tin"

Any idea's?

It will all make sense eventually...

I'm thinking about plate backgrounds in black for this one?  :|

Oh & next up for "de marooning" is No 7, my Edrig....May go satin black with matt black VHT boiler & smokebox on that one yet.

I agree with the above, definately some lining and nameplates etc, how about some GWR style numberplates! stunning loco in that colour all the same

Did think about that, but have not found any that suit as yet. I really need the company name on the plate as well as the date you see as I don't want to add seperate company initials as well. Not sure yet if I will be putting the roundhouse plates back on either.

What about naming it ' The Mole '. Fits with the Thunderbirds theme
