Well more has been done... I like to chart the progress of the line here as at least then I can look back & see how & when things were done.
So this time work has been done on the branchline, this line after climbing a reasonable gradient will go behind the small garden shed before entering the larger on behind it allowing rolling stock to be transported into cover as needed.
In this pic the branch diverges to the left leaving the mainline to the right.
Have gone for a Welsh look, it's those years driving the Central/Heart of wales line & cambrian stuff seem to have influenced me that way...
;)

Scarlett in her "Notwork Fail" fast response vehicle at the jnc. Great having such a good daughter, means I can get on with stuff & keep her happy.
So what happens when you attempt to build a bit of Wales in your garden? Oddly enough it rained!!

But that wasn't going to stop me giving my Carrie it's first steam up for 2 months. It's maiden trip over the line was succesfull & it easily hauled 9 Accy wagons up the branch gradient..

Before running back to Chyknell station & having a rest..

Talking of the station, well it's been started & so far I have this much platform made. It's just cast concrete using shutters & then removing the shutters when dry enough.
Finally two shots of the branchline bit not during wet weather..

So far with testing on the limited amount of distance on the branch I have got the IP Jack, the Edrig & the Carrie to haul 9 accy wagons up the gradient from a standing start at the bottom. So hopefully I have not made it too steep.

Thanks for the feedback.
Hardly technical I know, but it works.
Finally edited another video set in the interwar years this time. Shows off a few of the bits.

To be honest I have not actually worked out the gradient yet. I simply looked at what height I needed the end to be & then tried it like that. As all the loco's that I expect to use it can climb it on a wet rail with a decent load I have kept with it.MTA wrote:How steep is the branch line gradient, Shane?

Thanks Zach, It was easy, it was first laid down as roofing tiles as seen in earllier pics. Then after the trackbed was concreted in it held the tiles in as well. Then I just skimmed the tiles with concrete about 3mm deep & simply pressed slate chippings in. Each piece of slate was tapped a few times as it was fitted to draw the water out of the concrete & make a good seal around the slate. Will see how it lasts but it's rock solid at the moment. It's got a bit wet in the photos as I had just laid rowlands mix down on the track but it was solid still as the concrete set last night well.

First off the rumours are true, the CVLR does indeed have a website. Drop by & have a browse, leave some comments or just keep up to date (ish)........
http://cvlr.webs.com/
Right with that plug out of the way, time for some updates....

Trackbed laid northbound through what will become a tunnel.

The S&T have emerged from there workshop.

Heavy duty (Hopefully cat proof) signals installed at the branch jnc.

Branchline tunnel started but not finished yet.

Temp return loop lightly (Extremely lightly laid) at the north end. I have some plans here! This was thought out so I could concentrate on the right handside of the garden first & maybe next year or before do the left. However there are a few more plans now that expand on that idea.

Finally no 7 drops down the branch with a small freight.

Lol Pete, actually I am planning a web cam using the PC in the shed but just so I can watch stuff running via Wi-Fi in the house (diesel of course).
As for progress, must be the joys of shift work.
Yesterday I didn't get much done, started building a road which includes a level crossing over the main & a bridge over the branch. Actually dug up a 1957 sixpence when building the bridge base, guess I may have a name for that road now!

The not yet completed level crossing.

Preparing for a video run.

And of course a video
Poorly Carrie at first doing Pendolino speeds & then a more subtle approach with the Edrig.

Ta Zach,
Regarding your questions.
Signals are just hardwood square section, oversize due to our cat & various other outside hazards. Signal arms are cut in one piece from thickish plasticard & shaped, drilled & painted. I do plan to fit them with an LED lamp eventually but more need at the moment are ladders. I need to find some of those. Hopefully I will be linking the signals up to one of the lever frames I have when I get around to building a base/box for that.
Old cars, well that was a lucky find at Back2Bay6, they were in the general secondhand pile he sometimes has. All monies from them was donated straight to the TR.
As for the chopper head coupling hooks, well after fitting hinges to that wagon when I built it I was thinking of ways to keep it shut & something not too fiddly to open. As I have converted all my chopperhead couplers to centre buffer I had loads of hooks left over. Seemed an obvious choice.

LOL, I'm sure when I have a full running circuit there will be an open invitation to people off here for an open day of some sorts. Besides the line is designed with an Edrigs size & NWNGR bogie coaches in mind as these are the biggest & longest stuff I own. I wonder what issue's other stock & locos will have on it?90733 wrote:WOW, when can i visit:lol:
Started building my trainshed at Chyknell station today...

Not finished yet, ran out of materials.

And continued work on sixpence lane road over rail bridge..

Maybe, it's if the horses in the field escape by jumping the fence again that I'm worried about!mhlr wrote:That canopy sure looks the part. Is that going to be 'cat proof' too?
Hopefully get more paint on the trainshed tomorrow at some point. It needs end boards & I'm thinking of going 1/2 or 3/4 the way down the side with boarding as well.
