Spektrum DX5e question

Hi there,

Does anyone know please if this type of transmitter can be binded to more than one receiver as the Chffed2bits site states 'it can be used to control more than one model (but not at the same time)'.

I have one of these and would like to use it on two different locos (but not at the same time).

Thanks but how? The instructions do not tell you how to do this and I have tried binding two different receivers but the transmitter only remembers one.

Yes about the bind plug.

I think it is to do with the fact I am using two different types of receiver.

Tom,

The DX5e can bind to a limitless number of Receivers as they memorise the ID of the transmitter. However the Transmitter only memorises the type of receiver used so they must all be of the same type - DSM2 or DSM (or DSMX if your DX5e is the latest model - there will be a white X on the front if it is a DSMX version).

I've been using a DSMX transmitter with 2 x Orange RX R615 DSM2 receivers for some video I'm about to post. What I did find was that I needed to bind the receivers a second time to set the correct failsafe position for the throttle (regulator) channel, as it is in a different position for the 2 models (Cheddar/GRS Tram & Accucraft Edrig).

Spektrum DSMX AR600
Orange RX DSM2

It should bind no problem there the ar600 is sold as a combo with the TX and the orange DSM2 should work also

seems like there are issues with some TX this is on the Spektrum site, we have a few DX5es and had no issues with DSM2 DSMX compatibility.

DSMX TRANSMITTERS OPERATING IN DSM2 MODE
The Spektrum Team has been investigating sporadic reports from DSMX transmitter owners using their products in DSM2 mode. We have discovered that in some rare instances, DSMX equipped transmitters with the Product ID (PID) within this bulletin, may have a backwards compatibility issue that could cause a "hold" with the following superseded DSM2 receivers: AR500, AR6100, AR6100E, AR6110, AR6110E, AR6200 and AR6300.

Note: This bulletin does not apply to DSM2 only transmitters.

If you have a DSMX transmitter with one of the following PIDs, please complete the Transmitter Service Request Form to receive a prepaid shipping label to send your transmitter to Horizon Hobby for a free firmware update.

Finally found a DX5e DSMX manual on-line (previously I kept getting linked to the full DSM2 User Manual version).

As I understand it you can only bind the same type of receivers together - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1676835 So here if Tom has bound the DSMX AR600 receiver to the transmitter it will work with more DSMX receivers once they are bound as well. However when he binds the DSM2 Orange RX receiver the transmitter will store that receiver as a DSM2 type, and would explain why it does not now work with the DSMX AR600 that was previously bound.

The DSMX DX5e transmitter has the facility to switch to DSM2 mode. I wonder if you do that then bind the DSMX AR600 receiver followed by the DSM2 Orange RX receiver if it would make any difference.

Here is how to switch the DSMX DX5e to DSM2 mode - Hold the trainer switch and pull & hold the Elevator trim button backward. Turn on the transmitter. A series of descending tones should be heard. Release switches. Page 6 of the User Guide - http://www.spektrumrc.com/ProdInfo/File ... ual_EN.pdf

My suspicion was right. In order to allow the DSMX AR600 & an Orange RX DSM2 receiver to both work you need to disable the DSMX on the DX5e transmitter - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1881252
