Model Engineering Exhibition-Sandown Park / Disabled access

Post by krusty » Mon Dec 02, 2013 7:48 pm

I'm thinking about attending this show for the 1st time. I would like to take my Grandfather with me, as he has a general interest in all things mechanical.
My only concern is that he uses a mobility scooter due to a severe stroke.
If anybody here has attended this show in recent years I would like to know if they believe this to be feasible. Basically will he be able to see anything and get around under his own steam, excuse the pun.
I'm still waiting to see if work will let me have the day off, but it would be good to get a heads up.

THe ground floor is all on the flat and there must be a level entry point but can't quite remember. I'm sure there is a lift to upstairs where a lot of exhibits are and they standard table height.
It's a good show if you want to buy anything heavy as you are parked pretty close.

Thanks David, just the sort of reply I was hoping for.
I will wait to see if I get the day off and make plans accordingly.

It's a shame the date is so close to the London one plus it's quite a drive for me, well almost anywhere is
The last time I went there was a live steam 16mm layout just past the entrance

Are you getting some new kit for your lathe?

I hope too.
I really need a 4" 4 jaw independent chuck. I'm having trouble finding a 1" x 12tpi backplate, without resorting to a gold plated Myford one.
The lathe appears to be pretty accurate, but it's age is making some tools and attachments a little difficult to track down.
But hey, I'm still having fun making chips!
John.

What lathe is it for I'm fairly sure I have one from an ML1 which is
surplus to my requirements.

Hi WVLR,
My lathe is a Myford Drummond 3 1/2" M type. There is no makers plate on it so I can't be sure, but I believe it to be a 1920-43 ish build.
If your chuck has the earlier 1" x 12 tpi thread it should fit. I think the only other alternative for the ML1 was a 9 tpi but still on a 1" spindle.
Is the chuck you have a direct fit or a backplate mounted chuck?

Hi John,

I've just had a look at it and it is for an M type not ML1 as I thought
it has MS256 THE PRATT CHUCK stamped on it, with a 1" 12 tpi thread,
I'll have a better look in the morning and send you some photo's if
your interested.

Sorry forgot to say it's on a backplate.
