I made these three flat bed wagons and I'm happy enough with how it's looking.
Next step: painting and maybe a little critter...from HGLW of course !

I also made my own couplers.

They work fine.

Thanks for the pic. I am very interested in these wagons myself. Playing with magnetic couplings on small quarry type wagons I would be very interested in the weight of these little flats. Running rakes of twelve Binnie slate wagons weighted to 100grm each has been no problem, but they have Binnie nylon/plastic wheels while these have all steel ones. Will still get some ordered up though - along with yet another chassis for a proposed simplex rail truck.

Now that is a truly excellent idea. Some years back at the Model Boat Exhibition at Leamington Spa a group effort managed to get the kids building a very simple plastic based small boat which they could then actually sail on the indoor pond. Worked like a dream and great fun.
I once managed to get a small group of a half dozen bright 10 year olds to build a small radio receiver from scratch and then to get them through the NRAE Examination and licensed as Radio Amateurs. Simple fun after school for a few weeks and thankfully they all passed. Parents shelled out for their rigs and supported by the local club members they were soon rabbiting away on the bands like pros. Very rewarding experience indeed.

I put some lead strips under my coachs from hglw as they swayed a bit in a light breaze, did the same with a box wagon and brake van bought from someone which are made from light weight wood..made all them rool much easier but adding weights will make the loco struggle for grip if its a bit on the light side..

That's actually what I designed them for - something that kids could easily assemble.

And this is the only reason why I can build these wagons !
