Gaskets
I am looking to pull the valve covers off on my 5" gauge Gemma so I can sort out the eccentric timing, but before I do this one thing playing on my mind is how do I re-seal it afterwards.
Currently there is this red-silicone sort of stuff on it but is there some form of less messy way of doing it?
Thanks in advance,
Stew

Red silicone sounds like a hylomar type instant gasket. These are very good (rolls Royce used it for headgaskets for years) if a little messy. If you have two flat mating surfaces then gasket paper can be used, all you do is cut it to size and oil it before fitting. You should get it from a proper motor factors (not halfords) instant gaskets do come in different types so make sure to get the correct sort.
