Lynton and Barnstaple carriage kits, a joint venture
Lynton and Barnstaple carriage kits, a joint venture
As some of you will know I'm a bit of a fan of the L&B. specifically the gorgeous carriages that they ran. Having a young family has meant that the wonderful offerings from accucraft have unfortunately been out of my price range (and in the wrong colours). I was lucky enough to get hold of a tenmille full 3rd kit and that satisfied me for a little while. Once completed though this kit had left me wanting more. I began looking at various options (plasticard/ plywood scratch builds, grs kit, etc) but none of these options were as exciting to me as what came next.
Searching through the forum I came across a thread about laser cutting where mike aka WVLR had mentioned to someone that he might be able to help with some parts. A swift pm resulted in a simple plan to have a go at producing some carriage sides. As I began to draw out the sides in 16mm scale I started to think about what other parts would I find awkward to make at home, again a quick email and mike agreed that we would have a go at some other parts.
What happened next developed VERY quickly. Mike informed me that he wanted to produce some parts that he could sell and I wanted carriages. The idea again evolved that together we would produce the drawings and then mike would manufacture the basic parts for ALL 17 carriages. A busy week or so of scaling and drawing and then converting to cad and here we now find ourselves. This morning the postman delivered to me the first 4 carriages in kit form.
Here are the photos of the 4 kits that arrived.
Carriage 1&2
Carriage 3&4
Carriage 7,8,9&10
Carriage 11,12,13&14
I cannot wait to get these kits put together!

3 more carriages to draw out and then they are all done. Then it's a case of putting them all together. I can do roughly a complete carriage per week with all the detailing when scratch building so these should be a little quicker.

So here's the work done on carriage 1 so far.
The chassis is drying for carriage 3, and I'll be building the 2 remaining chassis tonight.
Really excited for the next parcel from mike, should have the bogies and the internal partitions.
More photos to follow.

What measurement do you want of the carriage sides METHSSNIFFER? If its the actual side height (not from rail) it's 98mm.

I scaled up from the measured and drawn book as well as looking at the tenmille kit I built. Should be right +/-1mm
