Humbrol or is it Crumbrol?

Hi, painting a new piece of stock and I had no yellow revel paint so used humbrol and it went on like watery rubbish and runs even after two coates, it wont stick, it wont dry, awful finish. This happens every now and then but not always. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes. I bought 3 big tins last week. They are all water thin and took. a long time to dry. Did eventually though. Never usedangthi g else in 50 years! Now its Revell time methinks.

Yes I agree, revel is really good, humbrol have gone, well, liquidy hahahahah. almost ruined my wagon, mind, the effect it has made can be covered by weathering. Watch my crane wagon thread I will be posting, thats what it was on.
I just dont get it, some times it works fine!!!!

I did not have any bother with my recent paints , I have red , yellow and Brunswick green in large tins from Humbrol and found them to be good paints I used them on my IP Jessica that I built. Mine are made in the UK . Some are made in China I think and are said to be crap.

I think it depends on the tin, lack of or no quality control. I bought 2 tins of the same colour a few weeks ago, 1 was like water with no pigment settled on the bottom the other was to thick to use without thinning.

Big Al says that the new tinlets are now marked 'Made in UK', not seen any marked thus although mine all have the Margate address on them.

Not used Humbrol yellow but I've stopped using their matt black as I've had 2 tinlets go off very quickly (no problem with Revell matt black). Just bought a load of Humbrol paint from the Modelzone liquidation sale which seem OK although I have not used them all yet.

Problem with the Humbrol & Revell tinlets is they have no manufactured on date or use by date recorded.

Humbrol Acrylics are fine, there pretty much all I use apart from the add revel paint, no problems here. Haven't used the enamels for years!

Most Humbrol paints are now made in the UK due to China quality issues. They have only just brought production back so the paint you used may have been from the old China batch.

I just picked up 2 more tinlets from Modelzone (50% off but almost all gone now) and one of those is the new "Made in the UK" ones. The whole label has been remodelled and now includes the Hornby logo.

I haven't used model paints for 30 years or so until I found Garden Railways as a hobby so I haven't used the "China" made paints but have read that they were no good and they moved production back to the U.K. after many complaints.

IIRC correctly, they were a Hull firm originally then got taken over by furriners - non-Yorkies. No wonder it went to sh!t!

Humbrol were never a serious model paint just paint for kids to paint their airfix kits you know the supermarine spitfire. An oil based enamel is like vomit on yer new silk tie. If its going to be used, use matt and thin and spray at 40 psi then lacquer
