An alternative use for a Accucraft Lawley

My wife and I got married last December. She had the neat idea for the wedding breakfast that each table should be named after one of the little trains of Wales, with the top table being named after our own garden railway, the Dragon's Friendly Light Railway. It was then suggested that the center piece for each table could be a carriage surrounded by flowers. So I built 4 Brandbright matchboard carriages in a red that very closely matched the red on my wife's dress, and a friend repainted 5 IP engineering kits to match to make up the rest.

Something special was needed for the top table, and I had my eye on the Lawley at was at that very attractive price at Anything Narrow Gauge. We went halfs together, and Emma ordered some name plates. And Nausicaa, our very own wedding engine, took center stage on the top table.

Official duties done, Nausicaa (DFLR no 112) is now settling into a hard life of labour.

Wonder how many other engines have made it to weddings....

Yes indeed. A Miyazaki fan. I think the next one (whenever that may appear) might end up being called Totoro or Porco Rosso...

I'm aiming to hold on! She's the first woman I've met who is amazingly tolerant of my railway obsession. Though she's caught hold of the technique I've developed and stopped me from buying about half a dozen since!

That's just beautiful. And a Miyazaki fan - excellent. I think Totoro would be the better of the two names you've suggested there chap.

I'm a Kanzaka fan myself- and it shows - if you look carefully.

Nice. I'm trying to keep a "local" theme for my names so wouldn't be going down the same road, though I will admit that matchboarded 2-car DMU in "Spirited Away" is just begging to be modelled.

I know that song! Mine loved the whole garden railway world from the minute she was introduced, and gets stuck in to everything. She does have a killer technique for limiting my spending, though.

How about " Sheeta " from Castle in the Sky , or " Sophie "
from Howl's Moving Castle. Both feature railways as part of the action.

Also a Miyazaki fan here too !! Have 6 of his films in my collection and have seen all of them at least once.

*snort* Like you'd ever complain....and Vjoneslong, I'm quite jealous of your centerpieces! Tim didn't want our wedding to be all about trains (since that was mostly his hobby at the time), but I snuck it in -- a model signal found it's way into his buttonhole flower thing, we had a train on top of the cake (with the bride dragging the groom away from it), and I wore train earrings!

We had tons of trains at the wedding! The cake had a train on the 2nd tier and a little n gauge loop of track running round. And none of it was my idea, which was the best part!

Fantastic! I really wanted a train running around the bottom of our cake, but as the wedding was in the US and Tim's stuff all in the UK, it wouldn't have worked out

there was nothing "railway related" at our wedding (Fantasy theme at the service and Western at the reception), but Jane posed up and photographed this scene afterwards of our "arrival" back at Westwood
