Forest Fields Railway June Steamup
Forest Fields Railway June Steamup
As is tradition, the second Saturday in June saw the first steamup of the year on the Forest Fields Railway in the Southern Lake District. Mike had added to the spiral section yet again to a new upper terminus handily located beside where the food is kept at their steamups. This I believe finally takes the FFR to its highest planned point, I'd say getting on for a metre above the lowest point of the main circuit. Here are the pics
My day started with picking James up at Lancaster Station, once we arrived he soon had Britomart in steam. It is seen here pulling away from Bouth Station on the main circuit.
Rhoda from the Ingleton Mountain Railway climbs the grades on the main circuit
Curlew from the SLR North sits in the goods siding on the first station on the spiral section
Curlew passes the Fairfield Railway's Millie which is on the final climb to the upper terminus
The Millie on the way back down
Urien runs into the new terminus at Hawkshed. Running round did involve an amount of hand shunting with my 6 carriage train
Having run top to bottom, Urien rolls into Bouth
Rolling down the hill on the main circuit
A spiral shot, Urien above Sir Robin
James also bought along Snowdon, which went double heading with Urien before Urien ran out of gas
Snowdon runs backward uphill
Double Furness pair, the Millie leads Sir Robin
Top and tail shays, not often you see this!
Russell runs into Bouth
Russell pauses before assaulting the spiral
The Fairfield Millie gently simmers in the loading dock at Bouth
A first for the NWAG, an Accucraft Mortimer at the summit of the circuit
PTLR sam bought along his Archangel Darj which ran late in the day
The Darj brings the last train of the day down the hill
Thanks very much to FFR Mike for a superb afternoon, and for booking the weather again!

"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Most enjoyable, thank you! Some really lovely views there.
Hand-shunting at the terminus reminds me of my volunteering days on the Talyllyn, putting together the General Appendix, and in particular the day two of us spent measuring rolling stock for the reference sections. The GA lists loco, carriage and wagon lengths in feet and inches...
