The reason it sounds so good is that unlike the more common diesel-electric's that require ths engine to rev higher to turn the generator it is direct drive and the engine is just idling.

Also it's a four stroke engine so is not only running slower than the two strokes but has half the number of bangs per revolution, hence it doesn't sound like a swarm of hornets with the hiccups!
