Treddol designs

Post by Keith S » Sun Jan 20, 2013 8:06 pm

I came across this while looking at 16mm products online. I don't have a garden railway, well I sort of do but it is trespassing and I wouldn't leave buildings lying around! Anyway, I can't stop lusting after these little buildings! They are very expensive, but quite the nicest I have seen. This is exactly the kind of thing I would like when I eventually have my own garden.

I know they seam expensive but aren't just lovely. Hand made with tiny slate blocks that must have taken a lot of cutting. I like them very much.

Yes, it's easy to see why they are so expensive. If I could find some sensible way to explain to my wife why a 40 year old man needs a tiny slate house so he can spend all day staring at it and parking trains beside it, I would order one right this minute. They are beautiful.

They also do the masters for some of Cain Howley's concrete buildings (especially the "slate range"); I have one of Cain's signal boxes which is a delightful model. (Would still be darned expensive to ship to Canada, given its weight...)

Yes, I don't think it would be a terribly good idea to try and have one of the bigger ones shipped to Canada. I'm terribly tempted to buy something smaller though, (and easier to hide from my wife). I know this sounds cheeky but if I could buy a smaller one like a signal shack or something, I could examine it and try to make my own. There is a hill near where I live that has some very good slate. A couple of years ago some people were considering it as a possible income source for the local native people. Nothing ever came of it, but I was chartered in my aeroplane to fly there and take out some samples. There are great sheets of it just lying there. I could easily find lots of pieces to make my own model.

Treddol in France

I arranged with Treddol to ship to France, and we found a reasonably cheap shipper. Everything arrived safely, and they do look fantastic, even if I´ve only got some smaller pieces. If you look carefully, you can see a small hut next to the cottages in the harbour (2:22), and a water tank next to the houses on thé hill (start screen and 1:58), on my newest Youtube photo video. They´re very impressive - and very solid!

It may be something where a group of 16mm'ers in North America could get a large order together. Bigger shipments can be cheaper from when my brother did some international brokerage and when I was shipping Citroen and Mercedes parts to/from Europe.

As far as justification to the Mrs, I am glas I have never had to go down that path, nor hide things. But then we both have expensive and consuming hobbies.
