Leaves on the line? Grass Cuttings on the ballest? Fluffy Seeds an issue? Not for much Longer on the Devon Hilly Railway & SDGRG. Having got totally fed up clearing fluffy bits and grass off engines, I've come up with this:
Leaves? What Leaves?
Leaves? What Leaves?

Yes, it looks like it.Mr. Bond of the DVLR:73727 wrote:is that 4 computer fans strapped together?
Unfortunately, i hate to be the bearer of bad news but aerodynamic basic laws state the 4 fans strapped together in series does not give a 4 x multiple effect as each fan will obstruct the flow of the previous fan when the air hits the blades. The air from one fan decelerates to almost zero when it hits the blades infront of it.
Try it for yourself by comparing only 1 fanin one hand vs 4 series stacked fans in the other. There will be no significant difference in airflow.

Yes, my data wagon, for measuring speed and distance, uses the optical encoder from a Logitec mouse (ball type) driven from one of the axles with a Delrin chain.

I've used the wiring and connectors quite regularly, a CD tray and the plastic "CD" spacer from a tub of CDs to make a wagon turntable, a speaker from a laptop to put the sound card into a Simplex, tiny fan from the same laptop to make a radiator fan for a scratchbuilt diesel and parts of a PC case are currently being used as a "weedblock" and foundation for part of the Quarry Extension

I used the cd player as a base for a railway crane. Simply remove the circular bed and screw you crane onto the bearing underneath. It revolve so freely that the small breeze from a passing train can actually turn the crane, so watch the placement if near the track. Mine actually manage to hook onto the loco!
Great ideas for reusing the old computer parts, especially if you convert the power unit over to general purpose use around the railway with the different voltages.
